Taylor Swift is reportedly in early talks for what insiders describe as the first billion-dollar concert residency in history, with the choice coming down to Madison Square Garden or the Sphere in Las Vegas.

According to a report from Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice newsletter, entertainment executives have been quietly pursuing a deal with Swift even as public attention focused on her recent wedding to Travis Kelce. One insider told the outlet the wedding "opened the door" but that a residency is "the real prize" industry executives are chasing.

The Numbers Behind the Buzz

The financial stakes driving the interest are significant. Billy Joel's Madison Square Garden residency grossed an estimated $266.7 million across 104 performances. Celine Dion's two Las Vegas residencies brought in a combined $681.3 million. Industry insiders believe Swift, fresh off an Eras Tour that reportedly grossed more than $2 billion, could surpass both and become the first artist to headline a residency worth ten figures.

"Taylor isn't competing with Billy Joel or Celine Dion," an unnamed entertainment executive told the outlet. "She's competing with herself."

MSG or the Sphere?

Sources describe Madison Square Garden as the current frontrunner, partly due to the venue's history with Swift following her wedding there, though the Sphere remains in contention. One insider framed the choice as a matter of identity: Madison Square Garden offers legacy, while the Sphere offers spectacle.

No agreement has been finalized, and Swift's representatives have not commented on the report.

A Long-Running Rumor Cycle

Speculation about a Swift residency, particularly one tied to the Sphere, has circulated for nearly a year. In August 2025, a Sphere representative told Puck's Matt Belloni the venue was "not in conversations with her team about a residency," directly contradicting earlier reports that Swift's camp had been discussing Vegas dates tied to her album The Life of a Showgirl. That denial came around the same time other outlets reported Swift's team had been exploring residency logistics privately for months.

Given that history, this latest report should be treated as unconfirmed until either Swift's team or the venues involved provide official comment.
