Madison Square Garden is Being Transformed for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Wedding
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are days away from what is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched weddings in recent memory, with preparations well underway at Madison Square Garden ahead of a July 3 celebration expected to draw roughly 1,000 guests.
Neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly confirmed any details of the event. Their representatives have declined all requests for comment. But the evidence on the ground in Midtown Manhattan has made the venue an open secret.
What's Happening at MSG
Sources told CNN that two events are planned at the arena this week. A rehearsal is scheduled for Thursday evening at 6 p.m. and is expected to host around 100 guests. The larger celebration on Friday will begin with a cocktail party in the late afternoon and is expected to continue through 4 a.m. Saturday, with roughly 1,000 guests in attendance.
Trucks have been delivering supplies to the arena throughout the week. A CNN reporter on the ground observed workers unloading boxes marked "lobster meat" and a truck delivering what appeared to be a massive tree branch. Several workers declined to comment on the activity, with one saying simply, "My lips are sealed." A worker near the entrance was spotted wearing a crew shirt from one of Swift's former tours.
Winick Productions, an event planning company known for large-scale red carpet events, filed a permit with New York City's Street Activity Permit Office to close portions of West 31st Street and West 33rd Street to both vehicles and pedestrians from July 2 through midday July 4. Neither Swift's nor Kelce's name appears on the permit.
Amtrak police officers overseeing Penn Station, which sits directly beneath MSG, told Rolling Stone they had been told to expect a Swift wedding the weekend of July 4. NYPD officers told Variety they had been briefed about a potential influx of fans and paparazzi around the venue on July 3.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared to confirm the event at a Tuesday press conference while discussing a historic heat dome expected to hit the city this week, saying, "If you happen to be getting married at MSG, you will be staying inside and staying cool, and I think it's a good example to set for the city at large."
The Logistics of a Wedding at an Arena
MSG presents both practical advantages and obvious challenges as a wedding venue. The arena has no windows, making photography from outside essentially impossible. Multiple underground parking entrances allow guests to arrive and depart without exposure to street-level crowds. Both events will reportedly enforce a strict no-phone policy for all attendees, including guests, vendors and security personnel.
On the challenge side, luxury wedding planners who spoke to CNN estimated that transforming the arena into a wedding-worthy setting could cost anywhere from $10 million to $20 million, accounting for decor, unionized stagehands and riggers, custom bathroom facilities and security for a high-profile guest list. One planner said the couple would likely treat the arena as a blank canvas, building the environment from scratch in the way Swift has done for her own touring productions.
The Guest List
Confirmed and reported attendees include Jason and Kylie Kelce; Suki Waterhouse, who told Variety she was looking forward to getting wedding inspiration while there; George Kittle and his wife Claire; Kyle and Kristin Juszczyk; San Francisco 49ers teammate Druski; and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who was recently photographed picking up his suit for the occasion. Zoë Kravitz reportedly received an invitation despite rumors of a falling out with Swift. Swift publicly invited British talk show host Graham Norton during an appearance on his show last year.
Kansas City Chiefs players, including several of Kelce's teammates, have booked hotel rooms at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for dates around July 3. Stevie Nicks is rumored to perform at the event, consistent with a shirt Swift was photographed wearing courtside at the NBA Finals that read "Stevie Knicks."
Per San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, the couple has imposed a strict no-gifts policy. "They said absolutely no gifts," Kittle told Extra TV.
How They Got Here
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Instagram on August 26, 2025. The post included photos from the proposal and a close-up of Swift's ring, described as an old mine-cut brilliant diamond.
Swift captioned the joint post, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married." The couple began dating in the summer of 2023 after Kelce attended one of Swift's Eras Tour shows in Kansas City and famously tried to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number.
