Popular Kids' Fruit Puree Recalled Nationwide Over Packaging Defect
If your child's snack drawer includes fruit pouches, it's worth checking the packaging before their next snack time.
PT Organics Limited has issued a voluntary recall of select Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry 4-ounce fruit puree pouches after discovering a packaging defect that could cause a thin strand of soft, food-grade plastic to detach from the inner pouch material and end up in the product when squeezed. The recalled pouches were sold at Kroger, Meijer and Target stores nationwide between March 3 and July 13, 2026.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled pouches, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
How to Identify the Recalled Pouches
The recall applies only to 4-ounce Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry pouches carrying specific identifying marks.
Consumers should check the rear right-hand side seam of the package for a barcode reading 8 15367 01078 0 and a lane number of 4. Affected pouches will also show one of the following best-before dates: 01/19/2027, 01/20/2027, 03/17/2027, 03/18/2027, 05/14/2027 or 05/15/2027.
No other Pumpkin Tree branded products, best-before dates or flavors are affected by the recall.
What Caused the Defect
According to PT Organics Limited, the issue traces back to its packaging supplier, which recalled a production run of defective pouches last week after identifying the problem. The company said the defect was limited to a single production run on one manufacturing line, tied to an intermittent fault affecting pouches made on one of four lanes.
"Our packaging supplier has conducted a thorough internal investigation and determined that the problem only affected one production run, on one line, and that the fault was an intermittent fault in pouches made on one of 4 lanes," the company said in a statement. "This is the first of its type in 20 years serving our customers, and we applaud them for acting quickly to notify us once they had identified a problem and recalling the affected production lot."
What to Do if You Have One
Consumers who have any of the recalled pouches are urged to throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased. PT Organics Limited said it is working directly with retailers and its packaging supplier to remove any potentially affected pouches from stores.
"We are removing potentially affected pouches from the marketplace, working with retailers and our packaging supplier, and sharing information with consumers so they can identify the product and know exactly what to do," the company said, adding that it will "continue to provide clear updates and support to consumers, retailers and regulators" as the investigation continues.
