"The judgment she has faced is a clear reminder that women typically face a great deal more scrutiny than men and that their behaviors are often interpreted within social contexts that shape how they're perceived."

Therapist Jordan Pickell sees the same pattern. Parents picking up gig work to cover bills get read as resourceful. The moment that gig work brushes up against sexuality, though, the tone shifts from admiration to judgment, even when, as in Cave's case, there's no sex involved at all. "Parents do gig work and that's recognized as hustle or resilience, while anything resembling sex work is moralized," Pickell said.

A Bigger Question Hiding Behind The Headlines

Cave squeezes her content-making into whatever cracks of time parenting leaves behind — often just 22 minutes here and there while her kids are at school. It's not glamorous. It's logistics.

Chris Belcher, a gender and sexuality studies professor at USC, argues the real story isn't about Cave at all. It's about what her situation reveals: a culture that consistently undervalues caregiving. The more useful question, Belcher suggests, isn't whether it's appropriate for a mom to brush her hair on camera for strangers — it's why that's what it took for her to keep her family fed.

"I think it’s quite clear that we live in a society that devalues caretaking," Belcher says. "We could be asking more important questions about why it’s difficult for a mom of four to afford to feed her family, than whether it’s wrong that she brushes her hair for men who enjoy seeing it on the internet."

Cave's still acting. She's still parenting. And she's still fielding judgment for finding an unconventional way to make the numbers work. Whether people see her OnlyFans page as a savvy pivot or something to raise an eyebrow at, it's forcing a conversation a lot of working parents — particularly mothers — know all too well: the math of survival doesn't always match up with what society considers respectable.
