Marcellus Wiley was arrested Saturday on a charge of domestic battery, the latest development in a growing list of legal troubles facing the former NFL player turned podcaster.

An inmate search confirmed Wiley was booked into Orange County Corrections in Orlando, Florida, on the Fourth of July on one count of domestic battery. He remained in custody at press time pending a court hearing. TMZ first reported the arrest, and further details have not been disclosed.

A Widening Legal Battle

The arrest comes just over two months after four additional women came forward in court filings accusing Wiley of sexual assault, expanding a legal fight tied to his time as a student-athlete at Columbia University in the 1990s. Wiley played football at Columbia before a 10-season NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars, recording 44 sacks over 147 games. After retiring in 2006, he became a sportscaster at ESPN, where he worked until 2018.

The April filings followed lawsuits from three other women who accused Wiley of raping them in his Columbia dorm room in 1994, during his sophomore season on the football team. One of those accusers, identified as Jane Doe, alleges university administrators discouraged her from going to the police and instead handled the matter internally, and that Wiley was placed on academic probation rather than formally disciplined. An attorney representing several accusers has alleged in court filings that Columbia was aware of multiple complaints against Wiley and failed to take meaningful action, a claim the university has contested.

The New Accusers

Among the four women who came forward this spring is a former ESPN production assistant who alleges Wiley lured her to a hotel room in 2009 under the pretense of a work meeting, then attacked her after emerging naked from the bathroom. In a sworn statement, she described being pushed against the room's windows "so hard I thought they would shatter."

Two other accusers allege Wiley assaulted them in the late 1990s, after Columbia had already placed him on probation. One says the attack took place at her mother's Culver City apartment while family members were nearby; another alleges she was raped while attending the University of Southern California and reported the incident to the Los Angeles Police Department, though no charges were filed. A fourth accuser alleges Wiley began a relationship with her when she was 13, after he visited her middle school in Buffalo during his time with the Bills, and that he later flew her to Dallas on her 18th birthday, where the alleged assault occurred.

Wiley has denied all of the allegations. On a May episode of his podcast, he characterized the accusations as an attempt to profit from false claims, saying his accusers are "attempting to leverage lies for personal gain." In prior court filings, his attorney stated that Wiley "denies that he committed any of the wrongs alleged."

A representative for Wiley did not respond to a request for comment about the July 4 arrest. Wiley is married to Annemarie Wiley, who has appeared on Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
