Dollar General Recalls Coffee for Glass Contamination

An instant coffee brand sold at Dollar General stores nationwide is being recalled due to the potential presence of glass fragments, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dollar General Corporation announced the recall on Monday, August 11, after a customer reported finding glass pieces in their coffee grounds to a store employee. The company said it is investigating the cause of the contamination with the FDA’s knowledge and oversight.

The recall affects 8-ounce containers of Clover Valley Instant Coffee sold in Dollar General locations across the United States, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Impacted products can be identified by the UPC 876941004069 and the following lot numbers and best-by dates, printed around the neck of the bottle:

  • Lot: L-5163 / Best By: 12/13/2026

  • Lot: L-5164 / Best By: 12/13/2026

  • Lot: L-5165 / Best By: 12/14/2026

Health Risks and Safety Advice

Dollar General warned that ingesting glass fragments could cause serious injury, including damage to the teeth, mouth, and throat, as well as lacerations or even perforation of the intestines. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The company is urging customers who purchased the affected coffee to stop using it immediately and discard it.

After disposing of the recalled coffee, customers can request a full refund by contacting Dollar General customer service via email at customercare@dollargeneral.com or by calling 1-888-309-9030. Representatives are available from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. CT, seven days a week.

Nationwide Scope of Recall

Because the recalled product was sold at Dollar General stores nationwide, the company is asking all customers to check their coffee supplies, even if no contamination is visible. The investigation into how the glass fragments ended up in the coffee is ongoing.
