Mailman Fatally Shot on Letter Route, $250,000 Reward Offered For Information

Federal investigators are offering a $250,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the killing of a United States Postal Service carrier in Georgia.

Dequavious Graves, who went by Quay, was fatally shot while working as a mail carrier February 12 in Decatur in the eastern metropolitan Atlanta area. The DeKalb County Police Department confirmed it on February 17.

Graves, 31, had been delivering mail on Oxford Drive near Flat Shoals Road around 7 p.m. when he was shot. This information is according to law enforcement, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and his family.

At the time of his killing, Graves had worked for the agency and run the same neighborhood route for about three years.

"Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time," USP Inspectors said in a statement to FOX5-TV in Atlanta. "We are providing counseling services to our employees at the Wesley Chapel Post Office as the investigation into the incident continues."

No Motive, No Suspect

A motive in the killing wasn't immediately known. The suspect remained at large as of February 17.

DeKalb County Police Department spokesperson Blane Clark directed further questions about the case to USPIS.

Family Urges Shooter

Graves' family urged the shooter to turn themselves in to law enforcement.

"This was a very cowardly move, and I want you to please come forward and give yourself up," his mother Shannon Graves told local station WXIA-TV.

Officials are offering a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer, FOX5 in Atlanta and WSB-TV reported.
