Campbell’s Chunky, known for its hearty canned soups, has teamed up with beer brand Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) to launch two new limited-edition, beer-infused flavors that combine comfort food with a malty twist. The collaboration, announced on August 18, brings a playful mashup of game-day flavors just in time for football season.

The new products are being marketed as a way to merge the “craveability of Chunky” with the “smooth taste of PBR.” The two flavors include:

  • Beer Cheese with Potatoes & Chorizo Soup: A creamy, cheesy base infused with PBR, loaded with chorizo sausage and hearty potatoes.

  • Beef, Bacon & Beer Chili with Beans: A smoky, meaty chili featuring seasoned beef, beans, and bacon, all enhanced with a splash of PBR flavor.

“These soups represent the ultimate flavor collaboration,” said Ryan Pawling, senior brand manager for Campbell’s Chunky, in the announcement. “Our fans love bold, unexpected taste experiences, and pairing Chunky’s hearty recipes with the iconic, malty flavor of PBR brings something totally unique to the soup aisle.”

Rachel Keeton, senior brand director at Pabst, echoed the excitement. “We always like to do things a little differently at Pabst, so when the opportunity came to work with an iconic brand like Chunky, we knew this was a no brainer,” she said. “It’s a bold, unexpected collaboration that celebrates flavor, fun and the spirit of both brands.”

The soups will be sold exclusively at Walmart stores and online beginning later this month. To mark the launch, Campbell’s Chunky and PBR are rolling out several promotional events. On August 21, the brands hosted a dive bar takeover at Ray’s Bar in New York City, where attendees sampled the new flavors alongside ice-cold cans of PBR, picked up exclusive co-branded merchandise, and even had caricatures drawn in a “Chunky-fied” style.

Starting September 3, the companies will also embark on a nationwide food truck sampling tour at Walmart locations, giving fans across the country the chance to try the beer-infused soups for free during the month-long promotional push.

The collaboration follows a wave of food innovations in the soup aisle, as brands look for ways to capture consumer attention with novelty and nostalgia. Earlier this year, Progresso made headlines with its “Soup Drops,” chicken noodle soup–flavored hard candies that sold out within an hour of their launch. The popularity of such quirky food concepts suggests that consumers are eager to experiment with flavors that blend tradition with the unexpected.

For Campbell’s Chunky and Pabst, the partnership offers a chance to reach football fans, beer enthusiasts, and adventurous eaters all at once. Whether it’s chili infused with smoky bacon and beer or a cheese-and-chorizo soup with a malty finish, the brands are betting that fans will be eager to “crack open a warm one” this fall.
