Over 200,000 Heated Socks Sold at Costco Recalled Due to Burns
If you bought a pair of 32 Degrees battery-powered heated socks from Costco in the last several months, stop wearing them.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on April 23 that the socks have caused burn injuries to customers — 14 people reported injuries total, and 13 of them sustained first- or second-degree burns. That's not a minor irritation. That's real tissue damage from something people put on their feet and wore throughout the day.
A total of 207,806 pairs are being recalled. The socks were sold exclusively at Costco stores and Costco.com between August 2025 and March 2026 in medium, large, and extra-large sizes. All black. All battery-powered. All now being pulled back.
What's Actually Causing the Problem
The CPSC said the socks can cause hazardous burns when "worn during high-intensity activities that generate a combination of heat, excessive friction, moisture, and pressure." In other words — if you're doing anything more strenuous than sitting on a couch, the combination of the sock's heating element plus sweat, movement, and pressure can create conditions that burn skin.
For a product marketed as outdoor and activity wear, that's a significant design concern.
The socks retail between $30 and $46, have a battery life of up to eight hours, and are made of a cotton, polyester, and spandex blend. They're the kind of thing someone buys for hiking, skiing, or working outside in cold weather — which is precisely the high-intensity activity that appears to be the problem.
What To Do
Return them to any Costco location for a full refund. No questions, no receipt needed at Costco for recalls. You'll get your money back.
If you've already experienced any burning, redness, or skin irritation while wearing them, it's worth getting that checked out — first- and second-degree burns from prolonged heat exposure can look minor at first and worsen over time.
32 Degrees and Costco have not publicly commented beyond the recall notice.
