Walmart Tomato Soup Recalled in 29 States Over Listeria Contamination
That container of tomato soup in your refrigerator may be worth a closer look.
Kettle Cuisine has recalled certain Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kits sold exclusively at Walmart because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Walmart soup recall affects 14-ounce kits with a specific UPC and best-by date that were distributed to stores in 29 states.
Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled soup, but here's how to check yours.
Check Your Marketside Tomato Soup
The Marketside tomato soup recall is limited to one specific product. Look for 14-ounce Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kits with the following information:

The kits contain a 12-ounce pouch of tomato bisque, along with white Cheddar cheese and cheese croutons. They were manufactured and distributed between June 30, 2026 and July 7, 2026.

Why Was the Tomato Bisque Recalled?
The food recall was initiated after routine testing produced a presumptive positive result for Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause an illness known as listeriosis. One thing that makes Listeria problematic around food is its ability to survive and grow at refrigerator temperatures. That means keeping a potentially contaminated product cold won’t eliminate the concern.
As of the recall announcement, no illnesses had been reported in connection with the Marketside soup.
What Are the Symptoms of Listeria?
Healthy people who develop listeriosis may experience relatively mild symptoms, including:
Fever
Muscle aches
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
A more serious infection can cause symptoms including:
Headache
Stiff neck
Confusion
Loss of balance
Convulsions
Pregnant women and newborns, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of serious illness.
Listeria infection during pregnancy can be particularly dangerous. Symptoms in a pregnant woman may be mild, but an infection can lead to a miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or a life-threatening infection in the newborn.
The FDA advises anyone who believes they've developed symptoms of listeriosis to contact their doctor immediately.
What Should You Do With the Recalled Soup?
If you have one of the affected products, don't eat it. Throw the soup away or return it to Walmart for a refund.
Because Listeria can survive in the fridge and spread to other foods and surfaces, the FDA also says people should carefully clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with contaminated food.
Kettle Cuisine is continuing to investigate the issue, but, if you have any questions, you can contact the company at 617-409-1104, Monday through Friday during business hours.
Give Your Refrigerator a Quick Check
Even though there haven’t been any illnesses reported in connection with this Listeria recall, anyone with the soup should either throw it away or return it to Walmart for a refund.
Quick checks like these are always worth it, especially if you plan to put tomato bisque on the menu this week.
