Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream is voluntarily recalling several flavors of its Outshine Fruit Bars nationwide after discovering the products may contain glass.

The recall, announced Aug. 16, covers 6-count boxes of 2.5-ounce Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine and Black Cherry bars, along with the 24-count variety pack that includes those flavors. Dreyer's said the affected lots were distributed to retailers across the country. No other Outshine products or flavors are included in the recall, and no illnesses or injuries have been reported as of the announcement.

Outshine Fruit Bars are a popular frozen dessert marketed as being made with real fruit or fruit juice, and the brand has built a following among shoppers looking for a lighter alternative to traditional ice cream novelties. The recall affects only the specific flavors and package sizes listed by the company, leaving the rest of Outshine's lineup, including its other frozen fruit and yogurt-based products, unaffected.

How to Check If Your Bars Are Affected

Consumers can identify recalled products by checking the UPC and batch codes printed on the underside of the box. Best-before dates on the affected products range from May 31 through Nov. 30, 2027, depending on the flavor and batch.

Dreyer's has published a full list of specific UPC numbers and batch codes tied to the recall on its website and through the FDA's recall notice, since multiple batch codes can apply to a single flavor and UPC combination.

Anyone with an affected box is advised to either return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund or throw it away. Consumers with questions can contact Dreyer's by email at dreyers@casupport.com.

The company said it is taking the action out of an abundance of caution following consumer reports of glass found in the product. In a statement, Dreyer's said the safety, quality and integrity of its products remain its highest priority, and apologized for any inconvenience the recall may cause customers and retailers.

Anyone who believes they may have been injured by the product is advised to contact a healthcare provider immediately, though the company has stated that no such reports have surfaced so far.

A Reminder to Check Freezers Before the Season Winds Down

The recall comes as many households are still stocking freezers with frozen treats through the final weeks of summer, making it easier for an affected box to go unnoticed among other frozen goods. Food safety experts generally recommend checking recalled items against the manufacturer's official batch code list rather than relying on visual inspection alone, since a defect like glass contamination often isn't visible without cutting into the product itself.

Dreyer's said it is continuing to work with regulators as the investigation into the source of the contamination proceeds, and that it will provide updates if the scope of the recall changes.
