FDA Recalls 110,000+ Ice Cream Boxes Over Listeria Risk: What You Need to Know
So, this is probably not what you expected to hear on a sunny day in July, but if you’ve got ice cream in your freezer, it might be time for a quick check.
Rich Ice Cream Co. Recall: 110K+ Boxes Tied to Listeria
The FDA just recalled more than 110,000 boxes of ice cream bars from Rich Ice Cream Co.. And yes, some of the flavors are the nostalgic kind you probably grabbed for a summer treat: Chocolate Crunch Cake Bars, Fudge Frenzy, Cotton Candy Twirl, and even Orange Cream.
The recall was issued due to a possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. That nasty little bacterium that can cause some serious issues, especially if you're pregnant, over 65, or have a weaker immune system. And the worst part is that it thrives in the cold.
Here’s the short scoop:
The affected bars are from Rich Ice Cream Co.
Lot numbers run from 24351 to 25156
They were sent to stores in 23 states (plus the Bahamas, oddly enough)
No one's gotten sick yet, but the FDA isn’t taking any chances
If you’ve got anything from Rich’s chilling in the freezer, take a second to look for that lot number. If there’s a match, don’t eat it. Just toss it or return it. Not worth the risk, no matter how good that Strawberry Shortcake Bar sounds right now.

Urgent, Precautionary Recall
The good news is that this recall is mainly a precaution. The issue was caught early and Rich is working with the FDA to get everything off the shelves.
So, give that freezer a quick once-over, maybe warn the grandparents or babysitter, and when in doubt, play it safe. There are plenty of other ice cream options to enjoy while this one cools off.
Find this helpful? Save it, share it, or send it to someone who needs to check their freezer ASAP, because no one wants a side of bacteria with their ice cream.
