Beth and Rip are back — and they brought record-breaking numbers with them.

Dutton Ranch, the newest Yellowstone spinoff following Kelly Reilly's Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser's Rip Wheeler as they leave Montana for a new life in Texas, has become the biggest original series launch in Paramount+ history. The two-episode premiere, which dropped May 15, reached 12.9 million streaming views globally in its first seven days, Paramount announced Tuesday.

The previous record holder was Mobland, which drew 8.8 million views during its series premiere in 2025. Dutton Ranch obliterated that benchmark by nearly 50 percent in seven days.

The Numbers

The 12.9 million global views in week one put Dutton Ranch ahead of every original series Paramount+ has ever launched. The show also topped Nielsen's streaming charts for the week of May 11, making it the most-watched streaming series in the country during its debut period.

On linear television, the two-episode premiere averaged 2.9 million total viewers on Paramount Network — the biggest series premiere on cable since 2023.

For context within the Taylor Sheridan universe: Landman Season 2, considered one of the biggest shows of the 2025-26 television season, drew 9.2 million streaming views in just two days. Dutton Ranch surpassed that figure over a slightly longer window, but the comparison underscores just how dominant Sheridan's projects have become on Paramount+.

What the Show Is

Dutton Ranch picks up after the Yellowstone series finale and follows Beth and Rip as they settle in Texas, where they find themselves outnumbered and facing a ruthless rival ranch family. Annette Bening plays Beulah Jackson, the matriarch of the rival operation, alongside Jai Courtney and Juan Pablo Raba as her sons. Ed Harris plays Everett McKinney, a local veterinarian who becomes an unlikely ally for the couple. Recurring character Carter has grown up and is now in a relationship with Oreana, played by Natalie Alyn Lind.

The show holds an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising it as a worthy continuation of the Yellowstone formula. Audiences have responded similarly, giving it a 73% approval score based on the first two episodes — a strong start for a spinoff operating in the shadow of one of television's most beloved franchises.

The Bigger Picture

Dutton Ranch is the second Yellowstone spinoff to launch in 2026. Marshals, which follows Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton and airs on CBS, broke an eight-year cable viewership record with 9.52 million viewers for its premiere despite receiving mixed reviews. Dutton Ranch has been received far more warmly — described by some critics as feeling like a genuine sixth season of Yellowstone rather than a spinoff.

Taylor Sheridan, who co-created Yellowstone and serves as executive producer on Dutton Ranch, has built one of the most commercially dominant franchises in modern television. The Madison, another Sheridan series that premiered on Paramount+ in March, had previously held the platform's launch record with eight million views over its first 10 days. That record lasted less than three months.

Paramount+ and Sheridan are contractually partnered through 2029. Based on the trajectory of Dutton Ranch, that partnership is producing exactly the results both sides would have hoped for.
