Hold on to your ruby slippers. Something spectacular is blowing into town. Starting August 28, The Wizard of Oz is getting a jaw-dropping, AI-enhanced makeover at the one-of-a-kind Sphere in Las Vegas.

This isn’t just a rewatch of the beloved 1939 classic. It’s a full-body experience that will have you inside the tornado, dancing down the Yellow Brick Road, and experiencing the Emerald City like never before.

The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere Las Vegas premiere promises to be a cinematic experience on a whole new level.

The Wizard of Oz Reimagined: Immersive Experience at Las Vegas Sphere

The Sphere’s Las Vegas Wizard of Oz announcement was impossible to miss. Early one morning, a massive digital tornado swirled across its 366-foot-high “exosphere,” followed by the crash-landing of a house and a very familiar pair of ruby slippers poking out below.

It was a dramatic teaser for what’s about to come. The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere will unfold in a way that’s never been possible before.

And this isn’t just about watching a movie. According to Sphere executives and producers, this is about living the experience.

Imagine feeling wind whipping through your hair, catching the scent of poppies as they bloom around you, and looking up to see the Wicked Witch flying overhead. That’s the kind of sensory, full-scale experience you can expect from this Sphere immersive movie experience.

A Technicolor Dream Supercharged by AI

The original Wizard of Oz was groundbreaking for its time, famously shifting from black-and-white to vibrant Technicolor and wowing audiences with its innovation.

Now, more than 80 years later, the film is getting another revolutionary upgrade. This AI-enhanced Wizard of Oz pulls from the original film archives, stills, and behind-the-scenes material.

Using Google’s advanced AI, creators were able to reconstruct and reimagine parts of the film that were once limited by 1930s technology.

Imagine Dorothy’s missing legs in a few frames, and visual depth that wasn’t possible in the old 4:3 format.

Everything’s been reimagined and extended to fill the Sphere’s massive 16K screen. 160,000 square feet of immersive visuals were seamlessly integrated, so you’ll feel like you’re truly there.

Whether you're floating into Munchkinland or heading off to see the Wizard, you'll enjoy every detail in crystal clarity.

The Ultimate Immersive Wizard of Oz Experience

The team behind this groundbreaking production includes Sphere Studios, Warner Bros. Discovery, and immersive design leaders Magnopus, with Hollywood veteran Jane Rosenthal as a producer. Their goal is to make you forget you’re sitting in a seat and, instead, believe you’re in Oz.

And this isn’t just visual magic, either. You’ll smell the flowers, feel the gusts of a Kansas twister, and hear Judy Garland’s voice fill the space in a completely new way. When you hear “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in the Sphere, it’s not just a song. It’s an emotional event.

This immersive Wizard of Oz experience sets a new bar for what film can be, and it’s a perfect follow-up to the Sphere’s first original feature, Postcard From Earth. But, make no mistake. The Wizard of Oz is in a league of its own, blending nostalgia, artistry, and futuristic tech.
