Noah Kahan Had to Ask His Fans Not to Poop at His Concert. Yes, Really.
Noah Kahan kicked off the stadium leg of his "The Great Divide" tour in Philadelphia last Friday night. By Saturday morning, he was on X issuing a PSA about bathroom etiquette.
A fan-filmed video circulating on social media appeared to show feces scattered near seats at Citizens Bank Park following the June 26 show. The clip went viral almost immediately, with fans dubbing the incident "Poopgate." Kahan responded the next day with a message that was equal parts exasperated and good-natured.
"If you have to poop at a show please dear god just go to the bathroom lmao I've pooped my pants as much as the next 29 year old but you guys gotta understand there's a venue worker out there with a 1000 yard stare after dealing with that," he wrote on X.
He also posted to his Instagram story with two words: "Holy s--- Philly."
The Toronto Pledge
Kahan took the running joke a step further at his next stop in Toronto on June 28, leading the crowd through what he called a "therapy type" group pledge before the show began.
"So we're gonna do some therapy type of thing where we all, basically repeat after me, okay? If you think you have to s--- on the floor, then don't repeat after me, I guess. But please don't do it," Kahan told the crowd. The audience repeated after him: "I solemnly swear I will not s--- my pants, and if I do, I won't take it from my pants and put it on the floor."
Toronto went on without incident.
He Also Confessed
In a follow-up post, Kahan added a detail that got considerable traction online: "I s--- myself onstage in Charlottesville but that's because I am dedicated to my craft," he wrote.
One More Request
Poopgate isn't the only fan behavior Kahan has had to address this tour. He also posted to Instagram asking fans to stop stealing the Alger Brook Road street sign in Strafford, Vermont, the road referenced in his song "The View Between Villages." The sign has reportedly been taken multiple times, creating headaches for residents and the town's select board.
"It is a total disrespect to the folks who live on that road and a headache for the town to deal with," Kahan wrote. He offered to pay for any replacements and said fans could contact him or his mother to work out solutions. "I'm really sorry you're dealing with this."
About the Tour
"The Great Divide" is Kahan's first stadium tour, a 23-stop run that continues through December. The tour opened with the Philadelphia show and includes stops in cities across North America.
