Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff Separate After Nearly Three Years of Marriage
Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff have separated after nearly three years of marriage, PEOPLE confirmed Wednesday.
A source told the outlet the relationship between Qualley, 31, and Antonoff, 42, is "rocky," while a second insider said the pair are "figuring things out." Reps for both have not responded to requests for comment.
The news comes just days after Antonoff attended Taylor Swift's July 3 wedding to Travis Kelce in New York City without Qualley, instead bringing his sister, fashion designer Rachel Antonoff.
Signs of a Split Before the Confirmation
Speculation about the couple's relationship had been building online in the days before PEOPLE's confirmation. Qualley was not photographed at Swift and Kelce's wedding, despite the couple's own 2023 wedding having Swift among its guests. Fans also noted that Qualley appeared to have deleted every photo of Antonoff from her Instagram account, including images from their wedding day.
Qualley had also changed her Instagram username in the weeks before the wedding, dropping a handle that referenced a nickname tied to a Bleachers song title.
Neither Qualley nor Antonoff addressed the speculation publicly before PEOPLE's report.
How Their Relationship Began
Antonoff, a musician and record producer, and Qualley, known for films including Sanctuary and The Substance, first sparked dating rumors in August 2021 after they were seen kissing in Brooklyn. They went public in 2022 at an AFI Awards luncheon supporting Qualley's Netflix series Maid, then made their relationship Instagram official that March. Their engagement was confirmed in May 2022.
The couple married in New Jersey in August 2023 in a ceremony attended by Swift, Channing Tatum, Zoë Kravitz, Cara Delevingne and Lana Del Rey.
Antonoff has spoken publicly about the relationship on multiple occasions. During an April appearance on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, he said he knew he would marry Qualley from the moment they met at a party in 2021, describing the encounter as feeling like a Hallmark movie. He also said he proposed while the two were living in Paris, calling Qualley's sister beforehand to ask for her blessing.
Qualley described Antonoff as "my person" in a 2023 interview with Harper's Bazaar, saying she felt happy and at ease with the relationship. She also spoke about settling down for the first time after years of moving between apartments, and said she wanted to build a life with Antonoff, though she was not yet ready to have children.
In December 2023, Antonoff reflected on his wedding night during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, joking that his nerves caught him off guard despite his experience performing in front of crowds.
A Song Named for Qualley
In 2023, Antonoff's longtime collaborator Lana Del Rey released "Margaret," a song named for Qualley that features Bleachers. The lyrics reference the moment Antonoff met Qualley on a rooftop.
Del Rey later credited Antonoff's marriage as an influence on her own decision to wait before getting married herself, saying she was inspired by the way he looked at Qualley when they first met.
