Jon Bon Jovi Abruptly Ends Concert Due to Sinus Infection
Jon Bon Jovi cut short his Madison Square Garden concert Thursday night after battling a sinus infection, marking an abrupt end to what was the eighth of nine shows on his highly anticipated return to touring.
About 90 minutes into the set, Bon Jovi addressed the crowd directly before leaving the stage. "Don't throw away your ticket stubs, I'm gonna figure something out, OK?" he told fans. "Just hold onto it, we'll figure out how to reschedule." He added, "But I'm gonna have to cool it for the night. I feel great. I'll see you again soon, goodnight." Before exiting, Bon Jovi hugged his bandmates and gave the crowd a thumbs up as they cheered.
A spokesperson for the band confirmed the reason for the early exit in a statement. "Jon Bon Jovi spoke from stage and told fans he has been battling a sinus infection which led to the show's early ending," the spokesperson said. "As part of the Bon Jovi residency at Madison Square Garden, Jon has said numerous times that it has been a joy to return to live shows for the band. Updated information will be available shortly."
A Long-Awaited Comeback
Thursday's show was part of Bon Jovi's Forever Tour, which kicked off July 7 and marks the band's first major touring run since Jon Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord surgery in 2022. The singer had taken a four-year break from extensive touring following the procedure, a reconstructive surgery known as vocal cord medialization.
Speaking to People in June ahead of the tour, Bon Jovi described himself as fully recovered. "I'm fully recovered," he said, adding, "It was longer than I'd ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith." He also credited his bandmates for standing by him throughout his recovery. "They never doubted me and never looked for work or decided to retire," he said. "The sacrifices that each one of them have made to be there for me is on a whole 'nother level. They said, 'No, we're with you.' Every day of every rehearsal they were there with me. My love for them has only deepened."
In a separate interview on the podcast "How to Fail with Elizabeth Day," Bon Jovi revealed just how close he came to walking away from music entirely before the surgery. "I don't think I could do this anymore," he recalled thinking after a tour that left him unsatisfied with his own performance. "I don't know why, but I'm okay with walking away from this because there's no way I'm dragging down the legacy."
What's Next for the Tour
Bon Jovi is still scheduled to perform Sunday for the final show of his Madison Square Garden residency. The band will then head overseas to close out the Forever Tour with five shows across the United Kingdom and Ireland, including stops in Edinburgh, Dublin and two dates at London's Wembley Stadium in late August and early September.
It remains unclear when the band plans to reschedule Thursday's unfinished show.
