Voice-over actor Jim Ward, best known for his recurring roles on the Nickelodeon series "The Fairly OddParents," passed away Wednesday. He was 66.

Ward died on December 10 following a battle with Alzheimer's disease, the actor's agent, Arlene Thornton, confirmed on Thursday.

"His ability to improvise on the spot, as well as his dead-on impressions, were beyond impressive," Thornton said in a statement.

He was a one-man comedy show every time he came to the office to do his auditions. We will miss him dearly, and we will never forget the joy he brought to our lives on a daily basis.

His Career

Ward's voice-over career really took off in video games. In the early '90s, he appeared in several games including "Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin," "Grim Fandango," "King's Quest: Mask of Eternity," and "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace."

His career expanded into film and TV in the late '90s and early 2000s with roles in "Casper Meets Wendy," "Spirited Away," and "Totally Spies!" Ward later became a staple on Nickelodeon during the network's Y2K heyday, appearing on "The Fairly OddParents," "Hey Arnold!", "Danny Phantom," "My Life as a Teenage Robot," and "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

On "Fairly OddParents," Ward played business tycoon Doug Dimmadome and news anchor Chet Ubetcha, plus various other characters, over 95 episodes.

If you watched Nickelodeon in the 2000s, you probably heard Jim Ward's voice. A lot.

In 2009, Ward's performance as Stoker in the sci-fi action series "Biker Mice from Mars" won him a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding performer in an animated program.

Two Nickelodeon Voice Actors Died the Same Day

News of Ward's death comes shortly after the death of voice-over actor and fellow Nickelodeon alum Jeffrey Garcia, who voiced Sheen Estevez on "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius."

Garcia, 50, was pronounced dead on Wednesday after being taken off life support Tuesday night following a recent hospitalization for pneumonia.

So, two iconic Nickelodeon voice actors died within hours of each other. That's rough for anyone who grew up watching these shows.

Fans React

The deaths of Ward and Garcia set off a wave of mourning on social media, with fans sharing nostalgic tributes.

"I just got hit with TWO back-to-back childhood GOATS dying on the same day! You've got to be kidding me 💔," one person wrote on X. "It's a sad, sad day for the world of cartoons."

"Rest in peace Jim Ward and Jeffery Garcia. You both had so many characters that made my childhood light up."

"The one-two punch of Jeff Garcia and Jim Ward passing away in the same day hurts a bunch. Rest in Peace to both and prayers to their families."

"Jim Ward AND Jeff Garcia passed away yesterday??? We lost Doug Dimmadome and Sheen Estevez within hours of each other?! My inner child hurts 😭😭💔"

"First Jeff. Now Jim. These two voice actors changed the way I love my childhood for playing iconic characters. Much love and R.I.P. to both Jeff Garcia and Jim Ward for shaping our worlds in our childhoods."

That last comment captures it pretty well. These weren't household names to most adults, but if you were a kid watching Nickelodeon in the 2000s, you knew these voices. Their characters were everywhere and their work will live on far into the future.

The Reality

Ward was 66. He died from Alzheimer's after a battle with the disease. His agent remembers him as a "one-man comedy show" who could improvise and do dead-on impressions. He spent decades doing voice-over work. He started in video games in the early '90s, moved into TV and film, and became a Nickelodeon regular during the network's golden era.

He won an Emmy in 2009 and appeared in over 95 episodes of "Fairly OddParents" alone, plus countless other shows and games. Then he succumbed to Alzheimer's and sadly died December 10.

Garcia died the same day at 50 from complications after pneumonia.

Two Nickelodeon voice actors gone within hours. Both voices that defined childhood for millions of kids who grew up in the 2000s. Ward brought Doug Dimmadome to life. Garcia brought Sheen Estevez to life. Now they're both gone, and people who grew up with those characters are processing what that means.

Rest in peace to both. They made cartoons better. They made childhoods better. And now a generation of adults is realizing the people behind those voices are mortal too.
