Jay-Z Will Headline the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show
After years of picking the stars of the Super Bowl halftime show, Jay-Z is finally taking the stage himself.
The NFL, Apple Music and Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, announced on Monday, Oct. 26, that the rapper will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show. The game is set for Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The news was revealed at halftime of Monday Night Football’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. Apple Music teased the announcement on X with a playful nod to the rapper’s status: “GOAT’s out of the bag.”
From Behind the Scenes to Center Stage
The announcement is a full-circle moment for Jay-Z. Since 2019, he and Roc Nation have partnered with the NFL to oversee the league’s live music entertainment, including selecting and producing the halftime show. That deal was renewed in 2024.
In that role, Jay-Z has helped bring some of music’s biggest names to the Super Bowl stage. Now, the man who has spent years choosing headliners is choosing himself.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the moment was a long time coming. When the league first reached its agreement with Roc Nation, Goodell said, he had just one request: “that JAY-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him.”
Who Else Was in the Running?
The news didn’t come entirely out of nowhere. Puck first reported last week that Jay-Z would headline, sparking weeks of speculation among fans.
According to Puck, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were also considered for the 2027 show before Jay-Z ultimately settled on himself for the gig.
A Banner Year for Jay-Z
The halftime show caps a major year for the 56-year-old rapper and 25-time Grammy winner. In 2026, Jay-Z played a series of high-profile stadium concerts celebrating two milestone albums: the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint.
With three decades of hits to choose from, he’ll have no shortage of material for a halftime setlist. Fans are already speculating about which songs will make the cut, and about which guests might join him on stage.
Big Shoes to Fill
Jay-Z will follow one of the most-watched halftime shows in history. Bad Bunny headlined the Super Bowl LX halftime show earlier this year, a performance that drew 128.2 million viewers and earned a record nine Emmy nominations.
The halftime show has become one of the biggest music events on the planet, regularly drawing more than 100 million viewers and dominating social media long after the final note.
What Fans Can Expect
Super Bowl LXI will air on ESPN, ABC and Disney+, with mobile streaming available on NFL+. It will be the latest major event at SoFi Stadium, which has hosted the Super Bowl once before, in February 2022.
The NFL also called the upcoming performance a natural next step after years of collaboration. Goodell said he had seen the extraordinary impact Jay-Z has had on the halftime show.
Details about the setlist and any special guests haven’t been announced yet. But after years of shaping the show from behind the scenes, Jay-Z will finally get his turn in the spotlight on Valentine’s Day.
