It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is one of those television specials that knows how to make October feel like October. There are ghosts, pumpkins, trick-or-treating, and Snoopy battling the Red Baron from the roof of his doghouse.
Really, what more could we ask from fall TV?
The Great Pumpkin Is Back on Apple TV
Apple TV is where you'll find the Peanuts Halloween special this fall. That's a change from the Octobers many of us remember.
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown originally aired on CBS in 1966 and became an annual television tradition. These days, Apple is the exclusive streaming home of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang. And they'll be staying there for a while.
Last year, Apple announced that its Peanuts partnership had been extended through 2030.
You May Be Able to Watch for Free
If you don't have an Apple TV subscription, don't give up on the Great Pumpkin just yet. In the past, Apple has offered a short window around Halloween when non-subscribers can watch the special for free. But, the company hasn't announced the free dates for 2026 yet. So, we'll have to keep an eye on the pumpkin patch.
Last year, the special was free for nonsubscribers on October 18th and 19th. Apple has also said its beloved Peanuts holiday specials will continue to have free seasonal viewing windows.
It's Only 25 Minutes Long
If your fall watchlist already contains approximately 47 cozy movies and an alarming number of baking shows, we have some good news. The special is only about 25 minutes long.
That's plenty of time for Charlie Brown to receive rocks while trick-or-treating, Lucy to offer her usual abundance of opinions, and Linus to maintain his unwavering faith that the Great Pumpkin will finally arrive.
The Charlie Brown Halloween special has been around for 60 years now, but, somehow, we're still rooting for him. Maybe this will be Linus's year.
Grab the Candy Corn
There are plenty of ways to get ourselves into the fall spirit. We can light the cinnamon candle, buy one pumpkin too many, and insist that 68 degrees is sweater weather. But, spending 25 minutes with Charlie Brown and the gang may be one of the easiest.
