Fitness Influencer Stephanie Buttermore Dies at 36
Stephanie Buttermore, a fitness influencer and cancer research scientist with a following of more than one million on YouTube, has died suddenly at age 36. Her fiancé, bodybuilder and fitness personality Jeff Nippard, announced her passing on March 6.
Jeff Nippard Shares the News
Nippard's team posted a statement to Instagram confirming Buttermore's death. No cause of death has been made public.
"It is with profound sorrow that we share the sudden passing of Jeff's fiancée and partner of ten years, Stephanie," the statement read. "She will be remembered for her warmth and compassion, her love for her family, and her PhD research on ovarian cancer."
The statement asked the public to respect Nippard's request for privacy during the grieving period.
Who Stephanie Buttermore Was
Buttermore built a loyal following by creating content centered on women's health, body positivity, and intuitive eating. She amassed 525,000 Instagram followers and over one million YouTube subscribers over the course of her career.
Beyond social media, she was a credentialed cancer research scientist who earned a doctorate in pathology and cell biology, with a focus on the molecular mechanisms behind ovarian cancer progression.
In May 2024, Buttermore stepped back from content creation to prioritize her mental health, saying her anxiety had become debilitating. She later shared that after taking a break from social media, her mental health had become the best it had ever been.
A Decade-Long Partnership
Buttermore and Nippard were together for ten years. Their relationship began after Nippard sent her a message on social media, which led to daily video calls lasting several hours before he traveled from Canada to visit her in Florida.
"Our first date was a shoulder workout and I will never forget it," Nippard wrote when they announced their engagement in October 2022.
Buttermore celebrated her 36th birthday on February 25. Just days before, Nippard had shared a photo of the two of them together in honor of Valentine's Day.
Outpouring of Support
Fans flooded the comments of Nippard's most recent Instagram post with tributes after comments on the announcement were limited.
"I have followed Stephanie for years, what a beautiful soul," one follower wrote. "Prayers for you and your loved ones."
Buttermore is remembered not only for her influence in the fitness community but for her scientific contributions and the openness with which she shared her personal health journey with her audience.
