Did You Watch the Oscars? Here's What You Missed

What are the Oscars? Only the most exciting award show of the season – and usually the signal that the season of accolades is coming to an end.

Did you get a chance to pop some popcorn, pour your favorite drink, and watch the Oscars? If you sat down wondering, “How long are the Oscars?” we can guarantee the three and a half hours felt like nothing.

It really was a wonderful night. We noticed everyone went light on the politics and heavy on the heartfelt speeches – and we were here for it all!

Did You Watch the Oscars?

While so many great films were recognized this year, you might’ve noticed that this year’s big winner was Anora. Have you watched it yet? Some might say it’s a bit dark, given the plotline. Long story short, a young sex worker marries the son of a Russian oligarch and the ups and downs that ensue kept us all enthralled.

It swept the show with five awards, including Best Picture. Also, the film’s star, Mikey Madison, edged out one of our favorites – Demi Moore – for Best Actress. Aside from Mikey’s much-deserved win, most of the other categories played out the way everyone thought it would.

So, let’s run down some of the biggest categories.

  • Best Actor: Adrien Brody for The Brutalist

  • Best Supporting Actor: Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain

  • Best Actress: Mikey Madison for Anora

  • Best Supporting Actress: Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Pérez

  • Best Picture: Anora

Another category Anora swept was Best Director – going to Sean Baker. He asked us all to continue to support movie theaters instead of waiting to stream our favorite films at home. It’s a part of our culture that he doesn’t want to see ruined. Tom Cruise is a big proponent of seeing films on the big screen, as well.

Adrien Brody’s win was another lovely moment of the night. It’s his second Academy Award for Best Actor since his work in This Painist in 2003. His acceptance speech was very moving, especially when he thanked his partner for reinvigorating his self-worth and sense of value.

Zoe Saldaña’s speech was equally moving. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the casting choices for Emilia Pérez but, thankfully, it didn’t stand in the way of the film’s success. At the end of her speech, Zoe got a little choked up, citing her immigrant parents for much of her strength and success.

The Oscars: Dress to Impress

Now, with all those details covered, let’s get to the Oscars outfits. Did you see Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s performance? Boy, those ladies can sing. They certainly took the house down. Speaking of which, let’s start with Ari’s fashion.

Ariana Grande

We particularly loved Ariana’s Schiaparelli gown. It was a striking champagne color with some truly unique lines. The bodice was fitted to perfection before falling into a champagne dream at her waist.

Timothée Chalamet

Another standout for us was Timothée Chalamet’s daffodil Givenchy tux. Recently, we didn’t cut him any slack for his lime green suit and bolo tie at the SAG Awards. He seems intent on embracing bold colors this season, though, and this shade of yellow got much closer to the mark for us.

Mikey Madison

Mikey’s gown was equally appealing, though. It was very à la Breakfast at Tiffany’s with its high-waisted column design. She also had a lovely Tiffany’s necklace which certainly kept the theme going as we thought about a young Audrey Hepburn.

Demi Moore

Although Demi was edged out by Mikey for Best Actress, her bejeweled silver gown was the winner of the night. She was more statuesque than the shiny gold award everyone was hoping she’d take home. It cinched her in at the waist and fell beautifully to the floor.

Colman Domingo

There’s one more gentleman of the night that deserves all the claps. Colman Domingo has been knocking it out of the park the entire awards season and he really sealed the deal with his custom Valentino jacket. He was up for Best Actor but no one will remember he missed the mark. What they will remember is that well-cut suit and how beautifully he filled it out.

It Was a Fun Ride!

This year’s award season was a fun ride. It provided just the right amount of levity to kickstart the new year. In a way, we’re glad it went relatively light on the politics and offered us a few nights of escapism.

Whether you queue up Anora or Emilia Pérez, we hope you’ll enjoy a nice movie night sometime this week. And, in the meantime, keep coming back for more entertainment updates from our favorite stars. We may never be able to get over Demi’s dress or Colman’s tux – that is, at least until the next star-studded event!
