Heated Blanket Recall Affects Nearly 180,000 Amazon Purchases
Curling up under a heated blanket is one of life's little comforts, especially once the weather starts to cool down. But before you plug yours in this season, it's worth taking a quick look at the label.
A new heated blanket recall is affecting nearly 180,000 heated sherpa throws and blankets sold on Amazon, after reports that the products can spark, smoke, melt, and even catch fire.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says people should stop using the recalled blankets immediately because they pose a serious fire hazard and burn risk.
Why These Heated Blankets Are Being Recalled
According to the CPSC recall, the electrical cord attached to the blanket can detach and ignite, creating a risk of fire, burns, and electric shock.
So far, the company has received:
555 reports of blankets sparking, smoking, or melting
27 reports of fires
15 reports involving burn injuries or electric shocks
How to Tell If Yours Is Included
The recall covers about 178,000 OCTROT heated blankets and heated sherpa throws sold exclusively through Amazon between August 2021 and December 2025.
They originally sold for between $40 and $60.
The blankets were sold in several different color combinations, including:
Gray and yellow
White and gray
White and yellow
White and blue
White and red
They also came in five different sizes and feature a white wired controller with five heat settings.

What You Should Do Next
If you own one of the recalled blankets, the CPSC says you should stop using it immediately.
You can contact OCTROT for a full refund.
As part of the refund process, you'll be asked to remove the electrical cord, cut it in half, and email a photo of the destroyed cord to OctrotRecall@outlook.com before disposing of the blanket.
