Trump Mobile's T1 Phone Gets Another Redesign, Still No Release Date
Trump Mobile has updated the design and specifications of its long-delayed T1 smartphone for at least the third time, quietly publishing new renders and revised specs on the brand's official website in mid-April 2026.
The latest version features a redesigned gold body with an American flag motif, a reworked camera module, and a screen that has reverted back to nearly its original size. A release date remains unconfirmed, and the company's "Made in America" promise has effectively been dropped.
A Design That Keeps Changing
The T1 has gone through several distinct design iterations since Trump Mobile first announced the phone in June 2025. The latest version removes the oversized "T1" logo and the brushed gold effect seen in earlier renders, replacing them with a darker gold tone and a cleaner rear panel. A more prominent American flag print appears near the bottom of the device, followed by the Trump Mobile wordmark. The triple rear camera system has been rearranged into an oval bump with "Trump Mobile" text around the housing.
Some tech observers noted that the renders of the updated T1 appear unusually polished, with speculation that they may have been enhanced or partially generated using AI tools. Trump Mobile has not addressed those questions.
What the Specs Say
According to Trump Mobile's website, the T1 will feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, reverting to nearly the phone's original 6.8-inch size after a previous revision had reduced the screen to 6.25 inches without explanation. The phone runs Android 15 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7-series chip, though the exact processor model and the amount of RAM have not been disclosed. Storage is listed at 512GB.
The camera system consists of three rear sensors: a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide. The front-facing camera is also 50MP. Battery capacity is 5,000mAh with 30W wired fast charging.
The promotional starting price remains $499 for early depositors, but Trump Mobile executives Don Hendrickson and Eric Thomas confirmed to The Shortcut that the full retail price will be higher, described only as "less than $1,000." The T1 at $499 competes against established mid-range Android phones from manufacturers with years of software support and supply chain infrastructure behind them.
The "Made in America" Problem
Trump Mobile originally positioned the T1 as a phone built in the United States. As recently as June 2025, a company spokesperson stated it would be made in America. That language has since been removed from the brand's website and replaced with "Premium Performance. Proudly American."
According to reporting by The Verge, the phone's production will be handled by a "favored nation," with a "final assembly stage" planned for Miami that involves connecting approximately the last ten components of the device. The shift reflects the structural reality of the global smartphone industry, where Chinese dominance in component manufacturing makes a fully domestic build functionally impossible at consumer price points. Trump Mobile has not specified which country will handle primary production.
Still Waiting on a Launch Date
Trump Mobile opened pre-orders in June 2025, collecting $100 deposits from interested buyers. The phone was initially expected to ship before the end of 2025. That deadline passed without a launch. As recently as April 12, the website listed the release as "later this year," language that was quietly removed during the April redesign update.
The T1 is entering a market where cellphone location data privacy and distrust of foreign tech platforms have become genuine concerns for a segment of American consumers, which may be part of the brand's appeal. But hardware credibility in the smartphone space is built on track record, and Trump Mobile has yet to ship a single unit. Whether the Trump brand name can sustain consumer interest through continued delays remains the central question hanging over the T1.
