Golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover car crash Friday afternoon in Jupiter Island, Florida, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office. The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. near 281 Beach Road — close to where Woods lives — and local media reported no injuries. This is a developing story.

What Happened

The Martin County Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash and said it is actively investigating. No details about the cause of the incident or Woods' condition were immediately released. Local affiliate CBS 12 reported the incident involved two vehicles. A photo from the scene showed an SUV lying on its driver's side.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek was scheduled to hold a press conference at 5 p.m. ET Friday to provide additional details. Woods' representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Woods Had Just Returned to Golf

The crash comes days after Woods made his first competitive appearance in more than a year. He played Tuesday in the finals of Tomorrow's Golf League, where his Jupiter Links Golf Club team lost to the Los Angeles Golf Club.

Woods, 50, had been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained in March 2025 and a back surgery performed in October. He had been weighing a return to the PGA Tour at the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club — the first major of the season — which begins in less than two weeks. He last competed on the PGA Tour at the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, where he missed the cut.

A History of Serious Car Crashes

This is not the first time Woods has been involved in a serious vehicle accident.

In February 2021, Woods was severely injured in a single-car rollover crash in Rolling Hills Estates in Southern California. Investigators determined he was driving at least twice the speed limit in a 45 mph zone when his SUV struck a tree. The vehicle rolled several times, leaving Woods trapped inside.

He suffered open fractures to his lower right leg, requiring emergency surgery that included a rod in his tibia and screws and pins in his foot and ankle. He was hospitalized for three weeks. At a later public appearance, Woods said it was 50/50 whether part of his right leg might have been amputated. He underwent at least one additional surgery related to that crash in April 2023.

"It was very fortunate that Mr. Woods was able to come out of this alive," a deputy said following the 2021 crash.

Woods was not charged in connection with that accident. Officials said at the time there were no signs of impairment, though the decision not to seek a warrant for blood samples drew scrutiny.

Earlier in his career, Woods crashed a Cadillac SUV into a neighbor's tree in 2009 during a highly publicized personal scandal. In May 2017, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Jupiter, Florida, after being found asleep at the wheel. He later checked himself into a clinic that year for treatment related to prescription medication.

This is a developing story. Additional details are expected following the 5 p.m. press conference.
