Rams Rout Giants 28-6 on Monday Night Football: Winners and Losers
The Los Angeles Rams needed a bounce-back game in the worst way, and they got exactly that. Coming off a loss in Australia in Week 1, the Rams returned home to SoFi Stadium and dismantled the New York Giants 28-6 on Monday Night Football, avoiding a potentially disastrous 0-2 start to the season.
Giants' Night Derailed Early
New York's night took a hit right from the jump. Quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury on the opening drive and was eventually ruled out after halftime, though he did manage to walk off the field on his own. An official diagnosis wasn't available afterward.
That put veteran Jameis Winston into the game in relief, and the drop-off in quality was clear. Winston, an 11-year veteran, finished the night just 11 of 27 passing for 111 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception that Trent McDuffie picked off. The Giants offense simply never found any rhythm the rest of the way.
Stafford and Adams Take Over
On the other side, Matthew Stafford was in complete control. He finished 22 of 31 passing for 327 yards and four touchdowns, connecting repeatedly with Davante Adams, who found the end zone twice on the night. The Stafford-to-Adams connection was the engine behind L.A.'s offense from start to finish.
Aaron Donald Returns
Monday also marked Aaron Donald's long-awaited return to the field after roughly two and a half years in retirement. Playing at 35 years old, Donald drew extra attention with Myles Garrett on injured reserve for the Giants, facing double and triple teams throughout the night. He finished with three tackles, including one for a loss, and was open afterward about his body being sore, acknowledging he'll need more time to reach his top form. Even so, opposing offensive lines will have to account for him going forward.
Looking Ahead
Both the Rams and Giants sit at 1-1 heading into Week 3. For Los Angeles, Monday's win was exactly the kind of response needed after the trip to Australia. For New York, the priority now shifts to figuring out Dart's injury status and finding more consistency on offense heading into next week.
