Packers' Defense Smothers Cowboys, Jordan Love Leads Green Bay to 23-13 Win
The Green Bay Packers built an early lead and let their defense do the rest, beating the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 on Sunday Night Football at Lambeau Field for their third straight victory.
Jordan Love completed 23 of 41 passes for 276 yards and a touchdown with one interception. He also rushed for a 1-yard score on a quarterback sneak. Receiver Matthew Golden was his top target, catching six passes for 104 yards and the first-quarter touchdown that capped a 90-yard opening drive. Trey Smack kicked three field goals, from 25, 44 and 29 yards, to help keep Dallas at arm's length.
Dallas couldn't get going against Green Bay's defense. Dak Prescott went 34 of 54 for 258 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, one by Evan Williams and one by rookie Brandon Cisse. Love's 1-yard sneak in the second quarter, set up by pass interference penalties on the Cowboys, put the Packers ahead 17-0 at halftime. According to the Cowboys' official site, it was the first time Dallas had been shut out in the first half since Nov. 7, 2021, ending an 86-game streak. CeeDee Lamb was targeted 18 times and finished with 70 yards, while George Pickens had 73 yards on six catches.
The Cowboys finally got on the board in the third quarter when Javonte Williams scored on a 1-yard run to make it 17-7, but Green Bay answered with Smack's 44-yard field goal. Smack added a 29-yarder in the fourth quarter before Ryan Flournoy caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Prescott late. Dallas's two-point attempt failed.
Both teams were hit by injuries during the game, according to CBS Sports. Packers tight end Tucker Kraft went to the medical tent after taking a hit to the leg, running back MarShawn Lloyd also went to the tent, and Cowboys return man KaVontae Turpin was questionable to return with a rib injury.
Green Bay improved to 4-2 and next visits Detroit. Dallas fell to 2-4 with its second straight loss and visits Philadelphia on Monday.
