Olympic Skiing Legend Bode Miller Arrested on Drug Charges in Idaho

Bode Miller, one of the most decorated alpine skiers in American history, was arrested earlier this month on two misdemeanor drug charges in Idaho, according to court records first reported by TMZ Sports.

Miller, 48, was arrested June 6 and charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted a $5,000 cash bond and was released. An arraignment was held June 17, at which Miller pleaded not guilty to both charges. His attorney filed an appearance on his behalf shortly after the case was opened. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for July 29.

The specific substance involved has not been disclosed in court records. Representatives for Miller did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Who Is Bode Miller

Miller is widely considered the greatest male alpine ski racer in U.S. history. Across five Winter Olympics, he won six medals — including gold in the super combined at the 2010 Vancouver Games — and became the oldest alpine skier to win an Olympic medal when he competed in Sochi in 2014. He also won four World Championship gold medals and 33 World Cup races, and is the only skier in history to win at least five races in each discipline of the sport. He retired in 2017 and was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2019.

Life After Competition

Since retiring, Miller has remained publicly active, particularly around children's water safety advocacy. In 2018, his daughter Emeline died at 19 months old after drowning in a neighbor's swimming pool. Miller and his wife, former professional volleyball player Morgan Beck Miller, have since spoken widely about drowning prevention, including an appearance on the Today show in May.

"It can be an uncomfortable topic," Miller said during the appearance, "and a lot of people avoid it but we're really trying to bring that to the forefront."

Miller and Beck have eight children together and from prior relationships.

The charges against Miller remain allegations unless proven in court.
