Former Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo Arrested on Suspicion of OWI
Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst, was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence.
According to a Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office arrest-detention report, Romo was pulled over around 6:18 p.m. while driving south on the high-rise bridge on Interstate 43. The report states Romo "performed poorly" on standardized field sobriety tests, leading to his arrest. He was booked into jail around 9:45 p.m. and released later that night. Romo was arrested and cited for OWI, first offense; formal charges have not yet been filed, and he has a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 21.
Romo, a Burlington, Wisconsin, native, was reportedly in his home state competing in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, which had run Monday through Thursday in West Bend.
CBS said it had no comment regarding the arrest. Representatives for Romo have not yet responded to requests for comment.
A Standout Career With the Cowboys
Romo, 46, spent his entire 13-year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Illinois in 2003. He became the team's starting quarterback in 2006 and led Dallas to six playoff appearances, though the team never advanced past the divisional round during his tenure, famously including a botched field goal snap in a 2007 playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Over his career, Romo threw for 34,183 yards, 248 touchdowns and 117 interceptions while completing 65.3% of his passes. He made four Pro Bowls and finished tied for third in MVP voting in 2014. He remains the Cowboys' franchise leader in career touchdown passes. An injury cost him his starting job in 2016, and the team released him at the end of that season; he retired shortly after.
Since 2017, Romo has served as the lead game analyst for CBS' NFL broadcast coverage.
