Jayden Reed, Caleb Williams, Zach Bako-Bewele All Carted Off in Scary Week 2 Sunday

Sunday's Week 2 slate delivered some scary moments across the league, with Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed, and Packers right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele all being carted off the field with injuries.

Caleb Williams

Williams left Chicago's home opener against the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth quarter after suffering an apparent leg injury. He was favoring his right leg on the sideline and didn't put much pressure on it before eventually being helped off the field. Backup Tyson Bagent took over at quarterback in his place. The Bears entered Sunday at 1-0 after a 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, a game in which Williams put up 334 total yards and four total touchdowns. No official update on the severity of the injury had been announced as of publication.

Jayden Reed

Green Bay's afternoon in East Rutherford started about as badly as possible. On the Packers' second offensive play against the Jets, Reed caught a short screen pass from Jordan Love and was hit hard by linebacker Demario Davis. Reed went down immediately and stayed on the turf for several minutes as players from both teams took a knee while medical staff worked on him. He was eventually placed on a backboard and carted off the field to the locker room, and the Packers ruled him out for the rest of the game with a neck injury.

Reed signed a three-year, $50.5 million extension with Green Bay this offseason and played in only seven games last season due to injuries, so any additional missed time would be a significant loss for the Packers' offense.

Zach Bako-Bewele

One play after Reed went down, Green Bay lost another starter. Right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele suffered a right knee injury while blocking on third down and immediately went to the ground in pain. His leg was placed in an air cast before he was carted off the field, and he was also ruled out for the remainder of the game. Bako-Bewele was playing in just his second game back since undergoing surgery for a partially torn patellar tendon last season, making Sunday's injury an especially tough blow.

Anthony Belton stepped in at right tackle in his place.

The Bigger Picture

Losing two starters on the same drive is about as bad a start as a team can have, and it puts real pressure on Green Bay's depth up front and at wide receiver for the rest of the game and potentially beyond.
