What to Know About Amazon’s New 30-Minute Delivery Service
Amazon is rolling out something even faster than next-day shipping.
“Amazon Now” is a new service that’s supposed to get packages to customers in 30 minutes or less.
It’s already kicking off in Seattle and Philadelphia, with thousands of eligible items in the lineup.
What Is Amazon 30-Minute Delivery?
Amazon Now is covering popular categories like:
Groceries
Beauty products
Pet food
Household basics
Tech accessories
Over-the-counter medicine
Seasonal items.
Amazon Prime members will pay a $3.99 delivery fee, while non-members will pay $13.99.
Orders under $15 will also have a small basket fee.
Where Is Amazon Now Available?
For now, the Amazon delivery locations for the new service are Seattle and Philadelphia. Prime members in those cities can open the app, check their products’ availability, and place an order in minutes.
Amazon says more cities may be added to the list once the pilot/test period shows how people respond to the service.
How Delivery Works
To use Amazon Now, customers in the launch cities can look for the “30-Minute Delivery” option in their Amazon app or on the website.
If it appears in their area, they can then shop like they normally would and simply select the faster window at checkout.
Behind the scenes, Amazon's fast delivery relies on smaller, specialized facilities.
These sites are built for quick picking and packing, which means the drivers don’t have to drive that far, and the customers don’t have to wait very long.
Amazon says this setup also improves the workflow for their employees and keeps safety at the center of the process.
Why Amazon Is Expanding Ultra-Fast Shipping
Amazon Now is a nice add-on to Amazon Prime’s delivery perks.
Prime members already enjoy free same-day and next-day shipping on many items, and Amazon Now adds another helpful layer for folks who need an item right away.
While the rollout is small for now, Amazon says the model is designed to expand. So, if it turns out to be a popular service, more of us may see the option appear in our cities over time.
