Target Recalls Sugar Cookies in 20 States
Hundreds of cases of sugar cookies sold at Target have been recalled in 20 states and Washington, D.C., after federal regulators warned of possible contamination with wood.
The recall, announced July 22 by Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp. of Canada, affects 803 cases of Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, a Target-exclusive private label brand. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the action as a Class II recall, meaning the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences if consumed.
The recalled cookies were sold in 10-count packages labeled Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies. Affected packages carry Lot 25195 and UPC 85239-41250 3. Best By dates vary because retailers pulled products from freezers at different times.
According to the FDA notice, the cookies were distributed to stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Consumers are urged not to eat the recalled cookies and instead return them to Target for a refund. To date, no injuries or illnesses linked to the products have been reported.
Give and Go Prepared Foods said the recall was issued out of an abundance of caution. As of August 10, the recall remains active, and customers are advised to check packaging details carefully to avoid affected items.
Target has not publicly commented on the recall.
