LEGO Unveils Near-Scale Game Boy Replica for Nostalgic Fans

LEGO and Nintendo have teamed up once again in a nostalgic nod to gaming history with the launch of a near-1:1 replica of the original 1989 Game Boy. Set to arrive on October 1, 2025, this highly detailed model is now available for pre-order at $59.99.

The 421-piece LEGO Game Boy set faithfully captures the look of the classic handheld: from its gray casing and magenta A/B buttons to the contrast and volume dials, speaker grille, and cartridge slot. Even a “serial number” brick adds to the authenticity.

Lenticular Screen & Brick Cartridges

Rather than actual gameplay, the set features lenticular display panels that simulate animation—a clever twist reminiscent of the original dot‑matrix display. It includes three swappable screens: the Nintendo start logo and scenes from Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

Also included are two buildable, brick‑based Game Pak cartridges for the Mario and Zelda games, designed to slot into the LEGO Game Boy’s cartridge bay for display—not play.

A Collector’s Dream

At just under six inches tall, the LEGO Game Boy is nearly full scale and aimed at adult builders and gamers aged 18 and up. LEGO markets it as a tribute to retro gaming culture, perfect for fans looking to display a bit of nostalgia on their desk or shelf.

Despite promotional footage that mimics the old 1989 TV commercials—leading some viewers to wonder if the model is playable—LEGO has confirmed there are no electronic functions. The buttons, D‑pad, ‘dial’ knobs, and display are all inert—but purely tactile.

When and Where to Buy

Pre-orders began on July 24, 2025, via LEGO.com, LEGO retail stores, and select major retailers. Delivery starts October 1, 2025, just in time for holiday shoppers and faithful collectors.

The $59.99 price tag positions this set as accessible and collectible—especially compared to LEGO’s higher-priced Nintendo sets.

This latest collaboration falls in line with LEGO’s expanding line of Nintendo sets, including the NES console replica, Super Mario kits, and the Deku Tree model. The Game Boy adds a scaled-down yet detailed tribute to one of gaming’s most enduring icons.
