Ice Cream Recall: Small Stones Found in Dairy-Free Flavor
An ice cream retailer issued a recall for one of its dairy-free flavors after reports that pints may contain small stones and other hard objects.
Danone U.S. is voluntarily recalling pints of its So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster ice cream.
Small objects have been detected in the cashew inclusions, the company said December 15. Cashew inclusions are just pieces of cashew nuts added into the ice cream.
So, someone bit into what they thought was a cashew and it was a rock. Not ideal.
What's Being Recalled
The recalled pints have best-by dates before August 8, 2027. They were sold at retail stores nationwide.
Product details: So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert pints, SKU 136603, UPC 744473476138.
No other So Delicious Dairy Free flavors are affected. Just the Salted Caramel Cluster variety. So, if you've got a different flavor in your freezer, you're fine.
What the Company Says
So Delicious Dairy Free is pulling the product from retail shelves. The company says it identified and corrected the issue and plans to bring the dessert back.
No information about which retailers sold the product or which states. So basically, if you bought it anywhere in the U.S., check your freezer.
"So Delicious Dairy Free takes every consumer experience seriously and is initiating this voluntary recall in line with its commitment to product quality and consumer safety."
Corporate speak for "we're sorry there are rocks in the ice cream."
What You Should Do

How Does This Happen?
Small stones in food products usually happen during processing or packaging. In this case, it's with the cashew inclusions specifically.
Cashews get grown, harvested, processed. At some point, small stones or hard objects got mixed in with the cashews. Then those cashews got added to the ice cream. Then the ice cream got packaged and shipped.
Quality control is supposed to catch this. Sometimes it doesn't. Good news is Danone caught it and issued a recall. Bad news is some people probably already bit into small stones while eating ice cream.
Biting into a stone when you're expecting a soft frozen dessert could possibly chip a tooth or worse, mess with your gut if you swallow it.
Bottom Line: Check Your Freezer
There are small stones in some pints of So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster ice cream. Best-by dates before August 8, 2027. Sold nationwide.
Don't eat it. Contact the company for a refund. Check your freezer if you bought this flavor recently. No other flavors are affected. Just Salted Caramel Cluster.
The company identified the problem, issued a recall, and is pulling product from shelves. They say they've fixed the issue and plan to bring the flavor back. So if you really love this particular dairy-free ice cream, it'll probably be back eventually. Without the rocks.
Until then, pick a different flavor. Because biting into a stone while eating ice cream is not the kind of crunch anyone's looking for.
