Delta Cycle Ceiling Hoists With Straps Sold At REI Recalled
Delta Cycle is recalling more than 25,000 ceiling hoists with straps meant for holding large objects such as bikes or kayaks, because the buckles can break, posing an injury hazard.
The recall includes Delta Cycle Ceiling Hoists with Straps bearing model number RS2300, according to a notice posted by the U.S. consumer Product Safety Commission, including around 25,140 sold in the U.S. and around 3,390 sold in Canada. The model number is only found on the packaging, however, and the product may have a serial number in one of 16 possible ranges listed on the underside of the flat part of the pulley, or no serial number at all.
The recalled hoists were sold at REI and other independent stores, and online at Amazon.com and designbydelta.com from February 2017 through July 2024 for about $40.
The recalled product can lift large objects such as canoes, kayaks, bikes, ladders and more off the ground using a pulley system. The plastic buckles on the straps used to hold the object can break, causing the object to fall and posing an injury hazard.
Delta Cycle has received four reports of incidents involving the recalled ceiling hoists, including one minor injury.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Ceiling Hoist with Straps and contact Delta Cycle Corp to receive free replacement straps. Consumers should cut the old straps with buckles in half and discard them. If the ceiling hoist is being used without the straps, then no action is required.
