Veterans Day 2025: What’s Open and Closed This Year
Veterans Day 2025 falls on Tuesday, November 11th. It’s a federal holiday dedicated to honoring U.S. military veterans for their service.
And, while most of our everyday places will remain open, some essential services will be closed.
If you’re planning on running errands, mailing packages, or heading to the bank, here’s what you can expect.
Is the Post Office Open on Veterans Day?
No. The Post Office will be closed on Tuesday, and regular mail delivery will pause for the day.
Priority Mail Express is the exception, but standard mail and retail counter services will resume on Wednesday. If you need to send something time-sensitive, it may have to wait a day.
Are Banks Open on Veterans Day?
Most banks will be closed for the holiday.
ATMs and mobile banking apps will still be operational. So, you’ll be able to withdraw cash, deposit checks, and manage your accounts digitally.
Some local credit unions may choose to open, so it may be worth checking with your specific branch. But, it’s likely they’ll close in honor of the day, as well.
UPS and FedEx Hours
Shipping services work a little bit differently. UPS pickup and delivery services will continue on November 11th, and UPS Store locations will be open.
However, the UPS Veterans Day schedule means that UPS SurePost and UPS Mail Innovations deliveries may be delayed by one business day because they partially rely on USPS.
FedEx will also be open. FedEx Veterans Day hours will follow normal weekday operations, including delivery and FedEx Office services. If you need something to arrive quickly, UPS and FedEx can handle it, even when the post offices are closed.
What Stays Open?
Most grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and retail chains will be open on Veterans Day.
In fact, many of them will offer Veterans Day discounts or free meals for active-duty service members and veterans. You may need to bring your military ID with you to claim the offer.
Gyms, parks, hotels, and public transit systems typically operate on their usual schedules, as well, unless otherwise noted.
Why Is Veterans Day So Important?
Since 1918, Veterans Day has been observed every year on November 11th. It marks the anniversary of the armistice that helped bring World War I to a close.
The day is set aside as a moment of respect and recognition for the brave military men and women who have served our nation. It’s also a chance to reflect on the many freedoms we have here in the United States, and the people who helped protect them.
A Small Reminder in the Middle of November
Veterans Day offers a quiet pause in the midst of a fast-paced season.
However you spend the day, it’s an opportunity to recognize the service of others, say thank you, and hold space for those who have given so much, including their lives.
The details of what’s open and closed will help us plan our errands. But, the meaning behind the day is what will stay with us as we move through it.
