Most vehicle recalls involve parts most of us never see.

This one is a little bit different. There’s a new Subaru recall in 2026 affecting nearly 70,000 vehicles because a moonroof glass panel could potentially detach from the vehicle while it's being driven.

The recall covers certain 2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid models sold in the United States.

Which Vehicles Are Included?

According to the NHTSA, the recall affects 69,663 vehicles, including:

  • 2026 Subaru Forester

  • 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid

The issue involves the power moonroof assembly.

Investigators found that some of the glass panels may not have been properly bonded to the moonroof's sliding frame during manufacturing.

Over time, that bond could weaken and make the glass panel separate from the vehicle. That makes this both a Subaru Forester recall and a Subaru Forester Hybrid recall.

Why Is Subaru Recalling These Vehicles?

According to the recall documents, the issue stems from the application of the primer used during manufacturing.

The bonding agent itself wasn't the problem. Instead, investigators found that some of the moonroof assemblies might not have had the proper amount of primer needed to create a secure bond between the glass panel and the sliding frame.

If the glass were to detach while the car is moving, it could create a major road hazard and increase the risk of a crash or injury for other drivers.

What Owners Should Do Next

As part of this Subaru moonroof recall, dealers will inspect the moonroof glass panel and verify that it’s been properly bonded.

If a problem is found, Subaru will replace the glass panel assembly, free of charge.

The company says owner notification letters are expected to go out on July 24, 2026. Subaru's recall number for the issue is WRF-26.

A Quick Subaru Recall VIN Check Is Worth It

Not every 2026 Forester or Forester Hybrid is affected.

That's why the easiest way to determine whether your vehicle is included is to perform a Subaru recall VIN check through Subaru's recall website or the NHTSA recall database.

The good news is that Subaru says it’s aware of only a small number of technical reports related to the issue and hasn’t reported any crashes or injuries connected to the defect.

Still, when the roof of your car is involved, it's probably worth taking a few minutes to see whether your SUV is on the list.
