Powerball Jackpot Reaches $1.5 Billion Ahead of Saturday Drawing
The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $1.5 billion for the next drawing Saturday night after no ticket matched all six numbers in Wednesday’s drawing, lottery officials said. The prize carries a cash value of approximately $686.5 million.
According to the Powerball website, the current jackpot is the fifth-largest in the game’s history. It is also the second Powerball jackpot to reach $1 billion in 2025. Earlier this year, a $1.79 billion Powerball prize was won on Sept. 6 by ticket holders in Missouri and Texas.
The largest Powerball jackpot on record was the $2.04 billion prize won on Nov. 7, 2022, with the winning ticket sold in California.
When Is the Next Powerball Drawing?
The next Powerball drawing will take place Saturday, Dec. 20. Powerball drawings are held three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time.
In Michigan, players can purchase Powerball tickets both in-store and online until 9:45 p.m. on the night of the drawing. Cutoff times may vary by state.
How Much Does It Cost to Play?
A standard Powerball ticket costs $2 per play. Players can add the Power Play option for an additional $1 per play. The Power Play feature multiplies non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five, or 10 times, depending on the multiplier drawn.
The jackpot prize itself is not affected by the Power Play multiplier.
Powerball Prizes Explained
Players win prizes by matching numbers on their ticket to the numbers drawn. Matching all five white balls plus the red Powerball wins the jackpot.
Other prize levels include $1 million for matching five white balls and $50,000 for matching four white balls plus the Powerball. Smaller prizes range from $4 to $100, depending on how many numbers are matched. With Power Play activated, certain prizes can increase significantly, including a $2 million prize for matching five white balls.
What Are the Odds of Winning?
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot remain extremely slim. According to lottery officials, the odds of matching all six numbers and winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
The odds of winning any prize are better, but the vast majority of tickets do not result in a payout.
How to Find the Winning Numbers
Powerball drawings are broadcast live from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time. The drawings are also livestreamed on Powerball.com.
Winning numbers are posted shortly after the drawing on the Powerball website and on individual state lottery websites, including the Michigan Lottery.
What Is Powerball Double Play?
Players who buy Powerball tickets in-store can choose the Double Play option for an additional $1 per play. This feature allows players to use the same numbers in a second drawing held immediately after the main Powerball drawing.
The Double Play drawing takes place between 11:30 and 11:40 p.m. Eastern time and offers additional prizes of up to $10 million. The Power Play multiplier does not apply to Double Play prizes.
As the jackpot continues to grow, lottery officials remind players to play responsibly and understand the odds before purchasing tickets.
