NJ Teens Killed by Driver Who Allegedly Stalked One Victim
Two 17-year-old girls tragically died after being struck by a motorist in a residential neighborhood in Cranford, New Jersey. Authorities say the driver, also 17, allegedly had been stalking one of the victims for months.
The incident occurred Monday, September 29, around 5:26 p.m. as the girls were riding electronic bikes on Burnside Avenue. Local authorities confirm the suspect has been taken into custody, and an active investigation is ongoing.
Neighbors described the victims, identified as Maria and Isabela, as close friends and students at Cranford High School. Several community members alleged the male driver had been repeatedly seen near one victim’s home, school, and online prior to the accident.
“He’s been parked outside of her house, online, in school,” one neighbor said, describing months of alleged stalking that reportedly went unaddressed despite notifying both the school and police.
After striking the teens, the driver reportedly continued down the street, dragging one of the bikes, until it caused his vehicle to stop. Authorities are requesting that anyone with home security or dash cam footage of a black 2021 Jeep Compass Utility 4D Altitude 4WD with tinted windows come forward.
Cranford Township officials expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. Crisis counselors were made available at all Cranford schools to support students affected by the loss.
A GoFundMe has been established to help the families of Maria and Isabela. Community members continue to rally around the grieving families.
