Leonid Radvinsky, the billionaire owner of adult content platform OnlyFans, has died at the age of 43 following a battle with cancer.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Leo Radvinsky," a company spokesperson confirmed. "Leo passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. His family have requested privacy at this difficult time."

From Ukraine to Northwestern University

Radvinsky was born in Ukraine and raised in Chicago. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern University before entering the world of computer programming and, eventually, the adult content industry.

In 2004, he launched MyFreeCams, an adult webcam service that marked his first major entry into the sector.

How He Came to Own OnlyFans

In 2018, Radvinsky acquired Fenix International Limited — the UK-based parent company of OnlyFans — from founders Tim and Guy Stokely, becoming the platform's director and majority shareholder.

OnlyFans had launched in 2016. Though it was not originally designed as an adult content platform, limited posting restrictions quickly made it one of the internet's most prominent hubs for that type of content.

Under Radvinsky's ownership, the platform grew substantially. In 2022, OnlyFans reported revenue of $1.09 billion, up from $932 million the prior year, with pre-tax profits rising 22% to $525 million. Gross payments on the platform that year hit $5.6 billion, and the total number of content creators grew by 47%.

Radvinsky collected more than $338 million in dividends in 2022 alone — equivalent to roughly $1.3 million for each working day of the year — bringing his estimated personal net worth to $2.1 billion, according to Forbes.

Celebrities and Creators Flocked to the Platform

As the platform grew, a wave of celebrities joined OnlyFans, leveraging their existing fan bases for significant earnings. Among the site's top performers are Blac Chyna, who boasts 12 million subscribers, and Bella Thorne, who has 1.1 million.

Thorne made headlines when she earned $1 million within 24 hours of joining the platform and $2 million within two weeks. Her outsized earnings drew backlash from everyday creators who argued she was disrupting a market they depended on for their livelihoods. Thorne later apologized and said she had hoped to use her platform to advocate for a larger cause.

In response to creator complaints, OnlyFans introduced caps on tips that viewers could send and imposed limits on what creators could charge for pay-per-view content — changes that frustrated many on the platform.

Other celebrities who have joined include former Real Housewives cast members Dorinda Medley and Sonja Morgan, as well as Shanna Moakler and Jordyn Woods. Blac Chyna has since said she stepped away from the platform, telling Tamron Hall she had been quietly pulling back from commitments she no longer wanted to maintain.

Venture Capital and Philanthropy

Beyond OnlyFans, Radvinsky ran Leo, a venture capital fund he founded in 2009 focused on technology investments, including stakes in the social networking service Pleroma and the Elixir programming language.

He was also known for philanthropic giving. In 2022, he donated $5 million to Ukraine relief efforts following the Russian invasion. He also contributed funds to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, an animal welfare organization, and other causes.

Company's Future in Focus

In January, Reuters reported that OnlyFans had been exploring the sale of a majority stake to investment firm Architect Capital in a deal that valued the company at more than $5 billion. The future ownership and direction of the platform now draws renewed attention following Radvinsky's death.
