Houston DoorDash Driver Banned After Delivering Food Completely Naked
A Houston family got an unwelcome surprise when they checked their Ring camera after a food delivery notification: the DoorDash driver who dropped off their order was completely naked. The company has since permanently banned the driver from its platform.
Caught on the Family's Ring Camera
Kiante Matlock was playing video games at his northeast Houston home on August 24 when his daughter noticed a delivery alert on her phone. When Matlock checked his Ring doorbell footage afterward, he found the driver standing outside his door with no clothes on before walking away from the property. Blurred footage of the delivery later aired on local television, according to local coverage of the incident.
Matlock declined to keep the food order and instead contacted DoorDash directly. The company refunded his purchase once he reported what the camera had captured.
DoorDash Responds With a Permanent Ban
DoorDash moved quickly once it learned about the delivery. "This man's behavior was vulgar and completely unacceptable," the company said in a statement. "We do not tolerate sexual harassment or misconduct of any kind." The company also called the driver's conduct abhorrent and said it removed his access to the platform as soon as it was made aware of what happened.
DoorDash added that it stands ready to cooperate with any law enforcement investigation into the incident, and it encouraged customers who experience similar misconduct to report it through the app in addition to contacting local police.
Police Say Report It and Preserve the Evidence
The Houston Police Department has advised residents who encounter this kind of behavior from a delivery worker to report it, hold onto any video evidence such as doorbell or security camera footage, and file a formal report with law enforcement. Officers say a report is necessary before investigators can determine whether criminal charges, such as indecent exposure, apply to a specific incident. As of the most recent reporting, it was not clear whether Matlock had filed a police report over the delivery.
Dasher Conduct Has Drawn Scrutiny Before
The incident adds to a string of stories this year that have put gig delivery drivers under an uncomfortable spotlight, though not usually for anything this bizarre. A DoorDash driver in Florida faced intense scrutiny after fatally shooting a customer during a dispute earlier this year. That case and the Houston incident involve unrelated drivers and markets, but both have put a spotlight on how gig delivery platforms screen and respond to the contractors who show up at customers' doors.
For now, DoorDash says the northeast Houston driver will not be delivering for the platform again, and the company has pointed to its zero-tolerance policy as the reason for the swift removal. Matlock, for his part, said he never expected a food delivery to end with a call to customer service over what his own doorbell camera had recorded. Ring and other smart doorbell cameras have increasingly become the deciding evidence in disputes like this one, giving customers a way to document exactly what happened at their front door rather than relying on word of mouth after the fact.
