Hilary Swank, 52, Is Pregnant With Her Third Child
Hilary Swank is going to be a mom again. The two-time Oscar winner, 52, announced that she is expecting her third child with her husband, Philip Schneider.
Swank shared the news Wednesday in a playful Instagram video. In the clip, the couple and their 3-year-old twins dance in the dark in glow-in-the-dark stick-figure costumes to Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet." When one figure turns around, a tiny glowing stick figure can be seen in its belly, AOL reported. Swank's growing baby bump is also visible in the video.
A December Arrival
Swank appeared to hint at her due date in the caption, though an exact date has not been confirmed. "A lot of people have been asking what project I'm doing next, this one releases in December," she wrote. She has not revealed whether she is expecting a boy or a girl, and she has not shared any other details about the pregnancy so far.
The announcement comes about three and a half years after Swank became a mother for the first time. The baby will join the couple's twins, Aya and Ohm, who were born in April 2023, when Swank was 48. After their birth, she wrote on Instagram, "It wasn't easy. But boy (and girl!) was it worth it."
Swank first revealed she was expecting the twins during an appearance on "Good Morning America" in October 2022. "I'm going to be a mom, and not just of one, but of two," she said at the time, according to ABC News.
Becoming a Mom Later in Life
Swank has been open about starting a family later in life. She became pregnant with the twins using eggs she had frozen about a decade earlier. She has not shared details about how she conceived her third child.
In 2024, she called her twins a "blessing" and spoke candidly about the challenges many women face when trying to conceive in their 40s and 50s. "I feel blessed to be able to have babies, you know, this late in life," she told Parade.
She also said she is lucky to have flexibility in her career. "I am in the blessed position of being able to work when I want to work," she said.
Swank has also spoken about how she views her body after pregnancy. "For me, it's not about bouncing back to our pre-baby bodies but rather bouncing forward into our new bodies and selves," she told Women's Health.
Her Love Story With Philip Schneider
Swank and Schneider, a social venture entrepreneur, met on a blind date in 2015. They married in 2018 at the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, California.
Family has been a focus for Swank in recent years. Just a week before her pregnancy announcement, she shared a photo from her pregnancy with the twins to celebrate California's AB 1901, a new law that requires diaper makers to disclose all of their ingredients. Swank is chief innovation officer and a strategic partner at HealthyBaby Co., which pushed for the law.
An Award-Winning Career
Swank is one of Hollywood's most acclaimed actresses. She won the Academy Award for best actress twice, first for "Boys Don't Cry" in 1999 and again for "Million Dollar Baby" in 2004.
More recently, she appeared in Season 5 of Showtime's "Yellowjackets" and starred in the 2024 faith-based drama "Ordinary Angels."
Her other well-known credits include the films "Freedom Writers," "P.S. I Love You," "Conviction" and the TV drama "Alaska Daily." With a new baby on the way in December, it looks like her next big "project" will keep her busy at home for a while.
