An Oreo Relaunch Is Coming With New Flavors and Big Changes
Oreo has never been particularly shy about experimenting with its cookies. We've seen everything from birthday cake to Swedish Fish tucked between those familiar wafers over the years.
But, the cookie aisle is getting an even bigger shake-up soon. Mondelēz International is planning a major Oreo relaunch for 2027, with changes expected to reach beyond the occasional limited-edition flavor.
And, while we wait, three rather unusual new Oreo flavors have arrived to give us something to argue about.
Oreo Is Getting a Makeover
Oreo has been around since 1912, so it's definitely earned the occasional wardrobe change. The upcoming relaunch is expected to include new packaging, more price options, and, in some markets, updated recipes.
The overhaul comes while Oreo is nearing $5 billion in global annual revenue. Roughly 60 billion Oreo cookies are sold each year, including about 20 billion in the U.S.
Even though people haven't exactly stopped eating Oreos, Mondelēz still sees room for an already enormous cookie brand to get even bigger.
The New Oreo Flavors Are Already Here
While the larger makeover is still coming, the Oreo flavors for 2026 have already taken an adventurous turn.
The brand's "Twist, Lick, Vote" campaign introduced three limited-edition cookies in August:
Banana Pudding: Vanilla wafer cookies surround two layers of banana and vanilla pudding-flavored creme
Deep Fried: Fried dough-flavored cookies hold dark chocolate and fried dough-flavored creme
Chicken & Waffles: Waffle-textured cookies and dual-layered creme bring together fried chicken and maple syrup flavor notes
Yes, Oreo Chicken and Waffles is a real thing.
Oreo says the three flavors took more than a year of research and development, and they're available for a limited time, while supplies last.
Only One Flavor Gets a 2027 Comeback
Here's where things get interesting. Oreo isn't deciding which of the three flavors deserves another round. We are.
We can vote for Banana Pudding, Deep Fried, or Chicken & Waffles through October 12th. The winning cookie will be announced on October 13th and return as part of the Oreo 2027 lineup for another limited run.
That means we're heading toward Oreo's bigger makeover with at least one familiar oddball coming back for an encore.
Oreo Isn't Done Experimenting
Limited-edition flavors have become a big part of Oreo's strategy, and the company has experimented with everything from strawberry milkshakes to brownie batter.
The 2027 relaunch suggests Oreo is thinking bigger than its next novelty cookie. Still, before we get new packaging and whatever else the makeover brings, there's an important decision to make.
Banana pudding sounds perfectly reasonable. Deep-fried is certainly intriguing. Chicken and waffles, though? We may need a glass of milk and a minute to think about that one.
