America Has a New Favorite Fast Food Chain — And It's Not Chick-fil-A
For more than a decade, one fast food chain sat comfortably at the top of the customer satisfaction rankings.
Many of us probably assumed it would stay there. After all, Chick-fil-A's reputation for friendly service, clean restaurants, and dependable chicken sandwiches has made it one of the most successful restaurant brands in America.
But, according to a newly released customer survey, there's a new king of quick service.
How Jersey Mike's Ended Chick-fil-A's 11-Year Winning Streak
The latest best fast food chain survey from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) delivered a surprise. After 11 consecutive years at No. 1, Chick-fil-A has been knocked from the top spot.
The new leader is Jersey Mike's, which earned a score of 84 out of 100, slightly edging out Chick-fil-A's score of 83. The rankings are based on feedback from more than 16,000 customers who shared their experiences at major restaurant chains throughout the past year.
For a sandwich shop to take down a fast-food giant is a bit like watching a rookie team win the championship. Nobody expected it, but here we are.
It Turns Out People Really Love a Good Sub
So, what pushed Jersey Mike's to the top? According to the survey, Jersey Mike's customer satisfaction scores were driven by freshness, food quality, menu variety, and perceived value.
Anyone who’s watched a sandwich being made "Mike's Way" probably understands part of the appeal. The meats are sliced to order, the toppings are added right in front of you, and the chain has built its reputation around customization and consistency.
The company has also been rapidly expanding while still maintaining high customer ratings, which isn't always easy to do.
The Rest of the Rankings Had Some Surprises, Too
The headline may belong to Jersey Mike's, but the rest of the rankings tell an interesting story, as well. Chick-fil-A’s ranking in 2026 places the chicken chain in second place, followed by several other familiar names that continue to perform well with customers, including Raising Cane’s, Wingstop and Culver’s.
Meanwhile, some of the nation's biggest brands continue to lag behind when it comes to customer satisfaction.
Chains like McDonald's and Burger King may dominate in size and sales, but customers consistently rate them lower than the top-ranked restaurants. That's one reason these rankings attract attention every year. The chains serving the most meals aren't always the ones people enjoy the most.
What Customers Care About Has Changed
The broader fast food customer satisfaction story may be about more than sandwiches vs. chicken. Increasingly, customers judge restaurants on a combination of factors, including:
Food quality
Order accuracy
Value
App performance
Overall service
In other words, people aren't just asking whether the food tastes good. They're asking whether the entire experience feels worth their money.
That's becoming especially important as menu prices continue to rise across the industry.
The Sandwich Shop Nobody Saw Coming
The battle for America's favorite fast food chain isn't usually this dramatic.
For years, Chick-fil-A was untouchable. Then a sandwich chain quietly climbed the rankings and eventually took the crown. Will Jersey Mike's hold onto the top spot next year? Nobody knows.
For now, the biggest winner isn't chicken, burgers, or tacos. It's a freshly made sub.
