Alabama Sports Reporter Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide
Authorities in Alabama are investigating the deaths of a television sports reporter and her husband after the pair were found dead inside their home in what police say appears to be a murder-suicide. A 3-year-old child was also inside the home and was not harmed.
Police Respond to Hoover Home
The Hoover Police Department said officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Highland Manor Court on Tuesday, Dec. 16, after a family member discovered two people unresponsive inside the home.
The Hoover 911 center received the call at approximately 9:03 a.m. local time, police said in a press release. Hoover Fire-Medics responded and pronounced a male and a female deceased at the scene.
“Although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears these deaths are the result of a murder/suicide and there is no threat to the public related to this case,” the Hoover Police Department said.
Police confirmed both individuals died from gunshot wounds. Authorities said a 3-year-old child was also found at the residence and was unharmed. No additional details about the circumstances of the shooting have been released.
Victim Identified as Former TV Sports Reporter
WBRC identified the woman as former sports reporter Christina Chambers. Her husband’s name has not been publicly released by police. According to AL.com, the couple married in 2021.
Chambers was a mother to a 3-year-old son, the station reported.
Police have not released further information regarding a possible motive and said the investigation remains ongoing.
Career in Sports Journalism and Education
Chambers worked for WBRC from 2015 until July 2021, according to the station. She later returned as a freelance sports reporter during the 2025 football season. From 2021 until early 2025, she worked at Thompson High School, where she played a major role in student broadcasting programs.
Before joining WBRC, Chambers worked as a reporter and anchor at WAKA in Montgomery, Alabama. Her sports broadcasting career also included positions at WLTZ NBC38 in Columbus, Georgia, Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta, and freelance work with Raycom Media in 2014.
In a statement, Alabaster City Schools confirmed Chambers’ role within the district.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former employee, Christina Chambers,” the school system said. “Christina worked for Alabaster City Schools as the director of our Broadcasting Academy.”
“In this role, she led THS TV, sharing her extensive television experience with our students. Christina also used her talents on the sidelines, with live reporting for the Warrior Nation Network on many Friday nights. Our thoughts and prayers are with Christina’s family and all of those impacted by this tragic loss,” the statement continued.
Remembered by Colleagues
Chambers also worked recently at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. Sophie Martin, Director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations at the company, shared a statement remembering her as a valued colleague.
“Christina was a cherished colleague whose warmth and loving personality touched everyone she worked with,” Martin said. “Christina was a source of joy and inspiration to our team and company. She will be greatly missed.”
Alabama Sen. Katie Boyd Britt also acknowledged Chambers’ death in a statement posted on X, asking for “thoughts and prayers” for her loved ones.
