If you’ve recently stocked up on your favorite flavored chips for movie nights, road trips, or your snack drawer at work, it’s worth checking the bag before you pop it open.

A new Utz chip recall has pulled several Zapp’s and Dirty brand potato chips from the shelves after concerns about a possible Salmonella contamination linked to a seasoning ingredient.

Which Chips Are Part of the Dirty Potato Chips Recall?

The affected products include flavors and sizes sold nationwide under both brands.

According to the FDA and Utz, the recall includes products like:

  • Zapp’s Bayou Blackened Ranch

  • Zapp’s Big Cheezy

  • Zapp’s Salt & Vinegar

  • Dirty Salt & Vinegar

  • Dirty Maui Onion

  • Dirty Sour Cream & Onion

The issue traces back to a dry milk powder that was used in seasoning blends that may have been contaminated.

What the Salmonella Risk Means

This Salmonella chip recall was issued as a precaution, and, so far, no illnesses have been reported.

Still, health officials say Salmonella can cause symptoms like:

  • Fever

  • Diarrhea

  • Stomach cramps

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

Young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are usually at the highest risk for more serious complications.

What to Do if You Have the Recalled Chips

If you have any of the affected bags at home, the FDA advises not to eat them.

Instead, throw them away or contact Utz customer service for refund information.

These recalled potato chips in 2026 are another reminder that food recalls move fast, especially when dairy suppliers are involved.

Checking the Pantry Before Snack Time

The good news is that this Zapp's potato chip recall appears to be limited to specific flavors and batches, not every product under their brands.

But, if you regularly buy flavored chips, this is probably the week to glance at the labels before diving into the bag.

Because, honestly, discovering your chips are part of a recall halfway through a Netflix binge is the kind of plot twist none of us asked for.
