Ice cream is usually the one thing sitting in our freezer, peacefully waiting to cap off a warm summer evening.

So, hearing that an organic ice cream recall is affecting products sold across multiple states is probably not the kind of surprise we’d like to hear as we head into ice cream season.

Straus Family Creamery has voluntarily recalled select organic ice cream products after concerns about possible metal fragments were identified during production.

Beginning earlier this month, the recall impacts products distributed across 17 states.

The Straus Family Creamery Recall Includes Several Flavors

According to the FDA and company announcements, the Straus Family Creamery recall affects select pint and quart containers of:

  • Vanilla Bean

  • Strawberry

  • Cookie Dough

  • Dutch Chocolate

  • Mint Chip

Only certain production runs and “best by” dates are involved in the recall. The products were distributed to retailers in:

  • Connecticut

  • New Jersey

  • Pennsylvania

  • Maryland

  • South Carolina

  • Georgia

  • Florida

  • Wisconsin

  • Illinois

  • Indiana

  • Iowa

  • Texas

  • Colorado

  • Arizona

  • Oregon

  • Washington

  • California

Officials say the recall was issued as a precaution after the possible presence of foreign metal material was discovered.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

Metal Fragments In Ice Cream: What Customers Should Do

Anyone who purchased the affected products is being advised not to eat them.

Instead, the company says customers should discard the products and contact Straus Family Creamery for replacement vouchers or additional support.

The affected containers can be identified using the “best by” dates printed on the bottom of the packaging.

Ice Cream Recalled in Several States Is Becoming a Bigger Conversation

Food recalls tied to packaging issues, contamination concerns, and ingredient problems have become increasingly common lately, especially in national distribution systems.

While this ice cream recall appears precautionary at the moment, it’s still a good reminder to glance at product notices before digging into the freezer after dinner.

It’s a good way to keep ice cream as the easiest part of our day.
