State Farm Is Sending $5 Billion Back to Millions of Drivers
Usually, when money changes hands with our car insurance companies, it travels in one direction. This time, State Farm is reversing the traffic.
They’ve begun distributing a one-time State Farm $5 billion dividend across the country. It's the largest dividend in the company's history, covering more than 49 million insured vehicles.
The average payment works out to about $100 per vehicle, although individual amounts will vary. If you had State Farm auto insurance in 2025, this is one piece of mail or email you won't want to ignore.
Who Qualifies for the State Farm Dividend?
According to the official dividend portal, you may qualify if you had an eligible policy from State Farm Mutual between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
Your payment will also need to meet the minimum processing threshold. That means you could still receive money, even if you changed insurers during the year.
How Much Money Could You Get?
Again, the payments will only average about $100 per vehicle. Each State Farm payment is calculated as a percentage of the premium paid for a qualifying policy in 2025.
And that percentage varies by state, ranging from 4% to 10%. So the amount you receive will depend on where you live and how much you paid for your qualifying coverage.
Why Is State Farm Giving Customers $5 Billion?
This isn't a settlement or a refund prompted by some giant billing mistake. State Farm Mutual is a mutual insurance company, which allows it to return value directly to its customers, rather than outside shareholders.
They announced the dividend in February, citing their financial strength and stronger-than-expected underwriting performance. They also said that lower auto repair costs and fewer collisions in 2025 allowed them to reduce their rates in 40 states by an average of 10%.
Those reductions are expected to save their customers another $4.6 billion annually.
The State Farm Payments Are Already Going Out
State Farm began issuing payments on July 31st. Millions of State Farm customers have already received their money, and the remaining payments are being distributed in waves, state by state. If you qualify, you’ll either receive an email from donotreply@e.sfdividend.com or a letter notifying you that your dividend is available.
If State Farm already has your email address, you'll receive instructions to access the dividend payment portal and select your preferred payment method. If they don’t have your email address, a check will automatically arrive in the mail.
You can also call the Dividend Customer Contact Center at 1-888-808-9532 or contact your State Farm agent if you have any questions.
Keep an Eye on Your Inbox
Although the State Farm dividend was announced back in February, the money is just starting to move now.
Because payments are going out in waves, don’t worry if you haven’t received your payment yet. For now, all you have to do is keep an eye on your inbox.
