'That's So Raven' Actor Bobb'e J. Thompson Sentenced to 30 Months in Federal Prison
Bobb'e J. Thompson, the actor known for playing Stanley on Disney Channel's That's So Raven, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
Thompson, 30, was sentenced Thursday, Sept. 17, in Sioux City, Iowa, by U.S. District Judge Leonard T. Strand, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa. He entered his guilty plea to the federal charge in April.
How the Case Began
The case stems from a traffic stop in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, on Sept. 22, 2025. According to federal prosecutors, an Iowa State Patrol trooper clocked Thompson driving 104 mph in a 70-mph zone. As the trooper approached the vehicle, officials said Thompson and a passenger were observed switching seats, and the trooper reported detecting the smell of marijuana coming from the car.
A subsequent search of a backpack belonging to Thompson turned up multiple bags of marijuana purchased from a dispensary along with a loaded .40-caliber handgun. According to prosecutors, the weapon had a 15-round magazine and a round in the chamber, and it had previously been reported stolen from a vehicle in Kansas City.
A Lengthy Criminal History
Thompson's guilty plea in the firearm case adds to a criminal record that prosecutors say dates back several years. His history includes a 2020 conviction for battery causing serious bodily injury, a separate 2020 assault conviction, and a 2022 conviction for prohibited possession of a firearm.
Thompson has spoken publicly about his run-ins with the law in the past. During a 2024 appearance on the "Eating While Broke" podcast, he addressed the toll his legal troubles have taken, saying, "I started catching cases and lawyer fees and bond money."
What Comes Next
In addition to the 30-month prison sentence, Thompson will serve three years of supervised release once he completes his time behind bars. Federal authorities noted there is no parole in the federal prison system, meaning Thompson is expected to serve the full term of his sentence. He remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service while he awaits transfer to a federal prison facility.

Thompson first became known to audiences as Stanley, the mischievous younger brother of Eddie Thomas, appearing in 10 episodes of That's So Raven between 2004 and 2006 alongside Raven-Symoné. He went on to build a broader career in television and film, appearing as Tracy Jr. on 30 Rock, and taking roles on The Tracy Morgan Show, Tyler Perry's House of Payne and MTV's Wild 'N Out.
His film credits include Role Models, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, School Dance and the animated film Shark Tale. Despite his early success as a child star, Thompson has faced a string of legal issues in the years since stepping away from acting.
