Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Denied Bail After Mixed Trial Verdict
Sean “Diddy” Combs isn’t walking free anytime soon.
After a nearly two-month-long federal trial, the music mogul was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. And when he asked the judge to go home and await sentencing? That was a no.
Judge Arun Subramanian denied bail on Wednesday, July 3, meaning Diddy will remain behind bars until his sentencing date on October 3; however, this date is subject to change.
Guilty on Two Counts, Acquitted on Three, Still Behind Bars
Diddy was facing five federal charges:
One count of racketeering conspiracy
Two counts of sex trafficking
Two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution
The jury acquitted him of the racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
But he is not entirely off the hook. Jurors found him guilty on the prostitution-related counts tied to his ex-girlfriends Cassie Ventura and “Jane,” a pseudonym used during the trial.
Each of those convictions carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison.
Why the Bail Denial?
According to reports, Judge Subramanian pointed to one significant piece of evidence: surveillance footage showing Diddy assaulting Cassie. That video wasn’t enough to convict on sex trafficking, but it was enough to make the judge say, “You’re staying put.”
Prosecutors also painted a picture of a man who orchestrated elaborate sex-fueled events and transported women across state lines to participate.
Even though the jury found reasonable doubt on the more serious charges, the conviction still stuck. And the judge wasn’t willing to risk letting Diddy out before sentencing.
What Happens Next?
Diddy’s sentencing is set for October 3, but the judge left the door open to move it up. His legal team requested an earlier date, likely hoping to reach a resolution sooner.
Prosecutors are reportedly seeking a 20-year sentence—the maximum for both counts. Though legal experts say that’s unlikely, prison time is still very much on the table.
Until then, Diddy remains at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
His Reaction? Like a Guy Who Thought He Was Going Home
After the verdict, Combs pumped his fist and hugged his lawyer. He looked at his family and mouthed, “I’m going home.”
He wasn’t. Not that day.
Outside, fans chanted “Free Puff!” But the only thing getting released soon is the sentencing date.
Sure, Combs dodged life behind bars. But with civil suits stacking up and a possible 20-year sentence on the table, this saga is just heating up.
